They'll see a new manager and automatically sniff a chance to make some money as all new managers seek to bring in their own players. It's nothing to do with it being Nick Barmby.
Correct me if I am wrong, but when he signed his contract, was it not two years, with the option of a third? Not sure whether the option rests with us or him (OWS says both parties), but surely we can instigate the third year with a slightly better deal and have him sign a more lucrative (in context) deal in the summer?

I would imagine that means we have to offer him a new contract on the same terms if he plays a certain number of games but he doesn't have to accept it.
I think that is irrelevant because I'm pretty sure even though he is now 31, he could get more money elsewhere than he is currently on. Therefore if we want him to stay we will have to offer him an improved deal and he will have to want to stay.
I can never understand these 'with an option for an extra year' deals. Surely any contract has the option of renewing it so what is actually meant by this 'option'?
I was one who said the whole 'he's better in the middle' thing was over the top because he scored a lot on the wing too, and I would still be saying the same thing now (he started the game on Saturday on the wing and was very effective).

It means one side has to offer and the other has the option to take it up.
In other words if he play x amount of games we have to offer him a new contract and he has the option to take it up.

I didn't trust him to play in a two in the midfield. Didn't think he had the work rate and the discipline for it. I stand corrected.

It doen't have to be based on appearances, it could be performance related. At 31, he's still got 4-5 years to go, so a three year deal would probably suit everybody. It's also about this time that players start looking into coaching, so perhaps if he is considering it, he could help out with the youngsters perhaps?
If it was performance related and not based on any facts or figures then surely it is just like any normal contract?
We might as well announce that every 1-year deal has the option of a further 7 years. Because after all, it does.
problem is if we build everythiing on him and he has an off day it might mean the whole team has an off. he influences the whole team which is great but can be a problem too.
No, they Do have an option. Thats why it's called "option".
We have to offer an extension to the contract IF certain criteria are met. BUT, then Koren has the option to accept or not.

I'm pretty confident Koren will sign a new deal and his comments after Leicester shouldn't be read into too much.
For any club to want to sign him they would have to be willing to build a side around him, this is pretty much what he has now with us under Barmby.
I'd be pretty gutted if he didn't sign a new contract and subsequently left but he could play in the PL, he's not getting any younger and he does deserve a PL payday, he's been fantastic for us.

I think he'll stay if he gets a significantly improved deal.

I just think he's brilliant. And he's been the difference a few times for us this season now.
A class act. I think (as Barmby isn't picking himself) he's the most intelligent and best footballer in the squad. By that, I mean having that football brain. The range of passing, the ability to shoot.
We all now know that you get 10 times more Koren if you play him centrally and let him try to pick those holes. It's the only way forward. He's massive for us.

I know what you're saying, but I'd have thought it was obvious the player has a choice. The term 'with the option of a further year' suggests the club can just renew it if they fancy or the player can. If it actually depends on both parties agreeing then it is just like any normal contracxt renewal and if it is a clause where a contract has to be offered based on a number of appearances then it might as well just be secret like whatever other clauses may be in there. The idea of announcing this 'optional further year' just seems weird and confusing to me when you consider the actual process.
