Reading one of my many books about military aviation (I'm a total geek with fast jets) during gulf war 1 there was some comms issues between our RAF and the yanks. The RAF kept confirming over an open net they were over MMFD. The yanks didn't understand. Was it an Iraqi installation? A British base they weren't aware of? Or something more sinister. They were deeply unhappy about being out of the loop (the way Americans tend to be) and it went high. Seriously high. A British Group Captain had to explain quite patiently that his pilots were simply referring to Miles and Miles of ****ing Desert! <laugh>
