Not sure where to put this article... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c20g288yldko The UK government has demanded to be able to access encrypted data stored by Apple users worldwide in its cloud service. Currently only the Apple account holder can access data stored in this way - the tech giant itself cannot view it. The demand has been served by the Home Office under the Investigatory Powers Act (IPA), which compels firms to provide information to law enforcement agencies. Apple declined to comment, but says on its website, external that it views privacy as a "fundamental human right". Under the law, the demand cannot be made public.
I’ve got an Apple phone but every time it has asked if I want something stored in my ICloud I’ve always clicked no. I wouldn’t even know how to access it.
I binned of the Apple cloud storage so now I have a TB of storage instead of the 5GB they allow you tp have with PAYING EXTRA for more
Yeah I don't have any Apple products, never have. I've no idea how much storage I'm using on google but it's never asked me to pay anything. Although my lad did say to me, don't ever pay, he'll switch me over to share his storage, so I assume he must pay something, but kids do tend to use a lot more data than us oldies.
I assume the government want the information to stop serious crime. I can see both sides of the coin, I can see why law enforcement might need access to save and protect lives, but I also see the other side regarding future dictatorship governments having too much information easily at hand about us. No one should ever take their freedoms for granted, because even in our lifetime, they have been seriously eroded - imagine what it will be like in our lifetime again, another 60+ years from now, a scary thought.
Anyone with a brain would not store stuff they wanted to keep secret on the cloud encrypted or otherwise, they would use an encrypted USB that could only be accessed on their own computer Starmer and his Government are embarrassingly incompetent and bragging about it in public
What a load of crap. Case in point. Apple is huge in China. Google is banned in China because they won't let the government access their data on individuals... Guess what that means Apple is doing. China is a bigger market than the UK though, so that tells you they value privacy, unless it costs them money. Apples latest phones track your location now even when powered off. They keep logs of what every photo on your phone contains "so you don't have child porn on your phone". The newest apples are currently the least private phones on the market.
How do you know Apple allow China access to data, have you got anything that supports this, I only ask because I haven't a clue and you normally talk unrealible crap.
China requires all phone companies to share data with them. All Web browsers to share data with them. Etc. Any company that's large enough to be noticed by the government will be asked to share data. Google as given as an example refused share data so is banned from operating in China. I don't have any specific knowledge of Apple sharing data with China, but they wouldn't be allowed to operate if they didn't.
Why do you assume China are worse than the British government, is that something that gets engrained into Americans.
I get the logic though, but don't have an answer to it. Maybe it's something for the media to explore and give us the answers.
Android all the way, free everything if you know where to look. And that includes free paid vpns. Apple are ****e Definitely... Much like us with Russia and I guess Trump
I should add btw, I don't personally have a problem with Russia or China, well certainly no more than having a problem with Trump and not trusting our governments anymore.
