Still gutted if Watson goes, even at £10m. Homegrown lad and you want lads like that to build your team around. I guess if hes not going to sign (don't really get that either when our pathway is as good as it is) then we have no choice. Hopefully we add a favourable sell on % too, cause if he goes there and smashes it £10m could turn into silly money very quickly.

Thanks for clearing it up, I'd assume we have offered a decent deal when he turned 18, but essentially the deal at 17 offers little protection to the club where as a 5 year deal at 17 protects the club a bit more

Yeah, but I'm not sure where any thoughts that he's refusing a deal have come from. The kid loves sunderland.

Signed a deal in 2023 and didn't play for the first team until recently so we didn't exactly need to offer him one immediately after a year.

If he does it's on him. His choice, the club have been bloody great.

If he wants to move for the big bucks before he has even played 10 games for us then that's on him.

£10 million is a big fee for a lad that's only played a handful of games.

Strange that he would rather go to Brighton where he won't be starting games and likely go out on loan for a year or 2 than stay here and probably play more first team games.in a settled environment.

Guess the wages would be massive though compared to here

Don’t want to lose Watson, but £10m is a good deal if we can get it. Particularly if the rumours are true that he actually wants to go.

I honestly believe we can play much better than we have ...

... I'm not sure those two can.

i feel the same

i feel like since before christmas weve kind of limped along and still picked up results for the most part

we are desperate for the return of options on the left and really the likes of browne. doubling down with 1/2 quality additions in the market and we are golden

I too would like to see evidence for him not wanting to sign a new deal.

Hopefully it's all paper talk and he's here for a few years till he out grows us or we find better.

We're close to being sure of the play-offs.

I think the need for caution will go and RLB will let loose ...

... especially as our run in is really pretty good from the end of February onwards.

Completely, agree on both accounts.

It would be disappointing for him to go when we've never been better at giving young lads the opportunity. Is he just seeing money? He's not getting in ahead of Mitoma. Madness.

If he stayed here for a couple of more years and moved at say 20/21 he'd be better equipped to go somewhere as first choice. Makes no sense to go from first team football back into U21 football at all.
