I genuinely can't understand why he'd want to leave unless he is unhappy at the club. He's a local lad, knows the people, knows he'll get a chance and develop in an environment that it us really good for young players. Brighton are a top.flight club but they aren't a better club than us. They might have a good owner and more money but I'd play for Sunderland over them every day of the week

Money, training around better players, potential of European football. Brighton throw young lads in early doors they’ve had several teenagers on the pitch over the last few seasons

Losing Watson would be a bit of a kick in the teeth. If he is happy here, then I'd be rejecting bids full stop.

If he wants to leave, then I'll trust the club to do the best deal possible. You'd imagine that the percentage of next sale could dwarf the flat fee we would get so it may be one that pays more down the road.

If we're really playing it well, we could get them to throw a loan player in (Ferguson is probably asking too much).

That’s easy to say as a Sunderland supporter though

It’s different being a footballer

Brighton are miles clear of us currently

On Watson comes down to if he is willing to sign a new deal or not. Brighton are a superb club and established premier league club who will end up pushing for European spots.

If he goes then he goes. anything around 10 million id take.

Brighton are a club you 100% go to if you are a young player. Always giving chances to young players and have a great network of clubs for loan moves. Wouldn't surprise me if Watson was loaned straight to USG. Good club.

He’s played a handful of games, we won’t get near that imo.

If i remember correctly they got forced to stop doing this, don't think they can loan players to USG at all now - although blackburn and sturm graz both been used recently

Ah I didn't know this! I know they have Osman at Feyenoord at the minute

Young English talent with big potential

They had bids rejected in August 3/4 million - his value has increased since then and we have no need to sell. 10 million is my number but its reasonable

I think there is clear path to being a starter here next season if we arent promoted. Which for someone his age to be playing week in week out in the Championship (hopefully in a promotion race) is really good for this stage of his career.

I know what you are saying re Brighton, but theyve done well the last few years, clear identity and from the outside look like its a good place to play your football so would be tough to compete with them while we are in the Championship.

Archie Gray went for £40m and I know some on here rate him very highly but as long as I have a hole in my arse he’s worth nowhere near that.

Not saying he is worth that but in the context of the English market and being a young English player its about the right number

The English transfer market is always very inflated

10 million will be seen as a bargain in 2/3 years

Oh defo, I’m agreeing with your original point that Watson is English with big potential so the skys the limit for transfer fee. Could be anything
