I don't think there's much gained by selling him now tbh. I doubt the reduction in fee for running all the way to a tribunal would be significant. And in the mean time we have access to a talented player who may yet sign a new deal. Selling Watson for circa £5m and bringing in Clarke on loan doesn't do much for me - and risks us being in a much worse place at the start of next season IMO.
I think there would be a big difference in a tribunal - selling clubs never get a great amount through that. Plus it impacts any future fees

The club will know how likely Watson is to sign a deal, if they believe he might still sign one then they can wait until the summer before making the call to sell him

If he's pushing for a move (no idea if he is) then we have to maximise the amount we get for him and then use it to strengthen us for the now

We will lose some of our star young players before they truly get the chance to show what they are all about, it's then about using the money to improve the team

If Watson would go would you then buy Isidor permanently with the money for Watson, so you can free up a loan space and then hypothetically loan Clarke and Marcus Edwards/Willem Guebbels?

Only thing that makes me think we wouldn't do that is that it would mean we'd have to start paying Isidor's wages.

The one thing I'm 100% confident about is the club are doing what's best for the club. This isn't Donald.
Yep, it’s why I never get worked up when good players get linked with moves away because for once I trust the club, I’ll be sad to see him go if he does go but the club will do what’s best for the player and itself

Could be miles off here but would letting his contract run down not negatively impact the way potential signings and our own academy talent view the club?

Do you think there is a realistic fee that Brighton would pay that would make that much of a significant difference to us? £6m is a good fee for someone with his amount of senior appearances, but does that amount really make a huge difference to us now when you factor in his potential upside?

If you are getting in excess of £10m then its a different story but dont see Brighton paying anything like that. Id keep personally.
Yes it would help us now. If my fees were the accepted amount, we would get good money to use around the squad for a player not guaranteed to start (who i rate very highly btw)

The sell on % and additional fees would be vital to me

We could reject it, he doesn't sign a new deal, then struggles for game time due to Mundle and we are then in a position in the summer where we would likely have to sell him to maximise our short and long term return

It's a difficult decision for sure but if he doesn't want to sign a deal then the clubs hands are tied

I would have thought a world where Watson played first team football for SAFC for most of the next 18 months would yield us a fee that is around the numbers that we may get right now, tbh. It's perhaps a gamble, but every decision is.

It’s a tough decision but with AA deal falling through maybe it helps us a lot. He’s going to be special but still needs developing and having only played briefly I’d be open to it for a good offer and future incentives

No guarantees he plays though, and what if his heads been turned

Maybe, but that depends on how Watson gets used. If he's playing first team football here at 18 I doubt he'll be that worried. It'll probably get him a bigger next contract.

Think with Watson it's probably one you need the inside info on. He may want to leave and then the club will have their hand forced. He may be really happy and the club have a clear plan with his future minutes and an extension has been verbally agreed if both sides were happy with his development/game time this season. Wouldnt say Im that concerned
