It irritates the **** out of me. People who beg for red cards....it ruins a game of football when someone is sent off. Its the last thing I want to see in any game. Certain fans literally jizz at the thought of going a man up
I'm glad we won, but this **** needs calling out mate. Michael Oliver is supposed to be our best ref, and he's an absolute joke.
I've been howling for over six years now that Oliver is the Emperor's New Clothes. He was the ref when Prickford assaulted Virgil, and he had to admit a few months later that he didn't actually know the procedure for Serious Foul Play (a bit like three-quarters of this board at the time, if memory serves me right). My piss boils every time some jerk of a commentator labels him 'The best young referee in the league' when he officiates of a game - a ludicrously overblown and undeserved reputation. And he was ****ing appalling in the last two international tournaments that he represented England in as well. The problem today though is the epitome of the incident I quoted above (and yes, before anyone chips in, I know he's made ****-ups in our favour as well) in that there is no point having VAR if they're always too terrified by his reputation to challenge him. Outrageous decision today, and you deserved your win.
I just think a ref's job is to manage the game and be in the background. But Oliver is one of those who wants to bring attention to himself by making outrageous calls. I don't know if it's incompetence or something more sinister, but why is it that every week we're calling out terrible refereeing decisions ? I know the PGMOL will try and justify the red for Lewis Skelly today because that's what they do, protect their own. But I guarantee you that you will never see another red card for a trip like that ever again.
