Ben Brereton-Diaz only wants to consider a loan move to Sheffield United should he leave Southampton this window. Other clubs are in for the Chile international striker but he is happy to stay and see out the season at Southampton if a move to Bramall Lane does not materialise. The 25-year old knows United well having played there previously - enjoying a successful spell where he scored six goals in 14 games last year - and is open to linking up with Chris Wilder on a short-term basis as they push to earn promotion from the Championship. Brereton-Diaz and his partner are also expecting a baby, so he does not want to unsettle his family life. He wants familiarity and stability so he knows Sheffield United can provide that should he step away from the South Coast. Otherwise he is more than happy to stay, see out the season at Southampton, then assess his options in the summer.
Cannon would imo. he presses well, is good with his back to goal and has good movement in behind and in the box the only thing is he would start over Isidor or vice versa
Probably makes no rational sense, but I'm not keen on BDD at all. Maybe cos he looks like Dack and doubt he'd be what we're after if we went up.
Seems like Cannon is the leading option from opinions on here. Better hold up play than BBD, is that right? He doesn't strike me as a player who will cause defences many problems in the air though. Vinicius might be the better bet in that regard.
Yep I do, I actually think he suits it perfectly I really like Cannon and I think in the right team he could be one of, if not the best strikers in the league I would like a permanent deal done for him tbh and then use the loan on a versatile winger I then think we need to look for a LB. Ideally we would get a fullback who could play both positions but that's hard to find so an out n out LB is a bigger priority imo Hjelde can do the job there for the odd game but we know cirkin isn't the most reliable fitness wise so I think a back up LB who can easily step in is important
Could Vale not provide decent cover for three of those positions or is he not up to it at fullback at this level?
@monty987 reckons we haven't got any strikers and need to get Simms in, so this had to be wrong surely?
I’ve been saying this for a while, he’s the profile of striker we’re after and he’s got league experience I think it would be a very very tidy signing he’s got a tremendous work rate imo for a big lad aswell, which is something that sometimes gets sacrificed for big lads @Scout73 do you agree
Some very insightful comments from those with knowledge of other clubs players on here. On that basis Cannon or BBD for me
I'm not convinced by Vale as a fullback but would need to watch him a bit more in that position to truly judge
Short term signing yes, but if we were to go up I'd be shocked if he can make the step up He's very inconsistent but he is a handful on his game so wouldn't be against it but also feel there's better out there
IMO I think if we're looking at any incomings in January they should be able to make the step up if we get promotion
Simms is interesting, he was good for us and has had spells at Cov where he has been very good. I’ve watched them a few times( FiL is a season ticket holder) and he’s still finding space but is rarely found. Lampard didn’t rate him and probably won’t pick him much- as an option on loan would he be worth considering? I don’t think there’s a premier league player there so wouldn’t sign him on a permanent basis but if they wanted to free a space he might be available on loan and offer something as competition? I’m not convinced but we’ve certainly had worse.
If we sign someone like Riis or Cannon and Le Fee improves our crossing and set pieces we have a massive chance of going up.
