I don't think he actually has the balls to go to war. He's just throwing a temper tantrum. He doesn't really want tens of millions more people added to the electorate that hate him, he's not annexing Canada. (Or Greenland)... I can see him trying to bribe Greenlanders to turn on Denmark though. Right now he's just trying to scare people into giving him his way.

Nonetheless this kind of talk is very bad as it could cause major problems for Western alliances and democracy.

There almost needs to be a new NATO that excludes the US as a symbolic show of unity against the US intervening in other NATO nations.

Nonsense. US is by far biggest spender and spends more than rest of NATO combined... But... Other countries are mostly focused just on their own realm of influence whilst the US is spread out across the whole world. Amongst other NATO members only Britain and France maintain a global presence, but even we mainly stick to home.

To invade, typically the invader needs 3 times or more the size of the defender to succeed. US would not meet that number if rest of NATO banded together.

NATO without US couldn't invade anyone, but would be a significant defence force.

disagree quite a large part of Nato look fine on paper but not in reality Germany , Spain Belgium Holland and to some extent us are woefully unprepared for major conflict

Noone is prepared for a major conflict. Maybe US and Maybe China... But even US is more setup for smaller conflicts.

Only US/Russia/China (and India marginally) spend more than UK. British troops are usually considered best trained in the world. (They frequently beat the Americans in war games).

It's kind of pointless to speculate because any way against US/Russia/China would devolve into nuclear warfare... NATO minus US probably is unprepared to invade any significant enemy, but would be perfectly capable of defending themselves in a defensive conflict.

Irrespective of the situation currently there's 500million people in Europe and 150mil in Russia.

I'd be fairly confident Russia would make early gains like the basics but they'd implode over time even withoutnandnus involvement

Russia has proven itself pretty low grade in terms of military tactics but thry are now in a full on war footing economy and taking weapons from all over.

They are very active in politics in Europe and their intent is to divide the parties up as a united Europe inters of intent equals an unbeatable foe on their border.

Poland is very aware of this and are actually going to be the main ones to stop Russia in their tracks. They are seriously investing in hardware.

Long term... Economies win wars.

It's why the cold war ended. It's why the Germans lost WWI... And why they lost WWII. (Economics forced them to open the Eastern front, they needed new people to steal from to pay their enormous borrowing costs... People say opening war in the East was Hitlers big mistake... But he really didn't have a choice... Germany was always going to lose because their whole economics was built around unsustainable debt)


Russia would have no hope against Europe in an extended war today. They're having a hard time merely fighting a proxy war in Ukraine. They would be like the proverbial Hitler... They could kill a lot of people and scare a lot of people, but they wouldn't have the economic power to carry it out.

Unless China backed them... Long term war with China's manufacturing base, they're the real superpower.

he wants to melt the ice sheet in his rather short lifespan and then have his children strip mine all the rare earth elements posisble thats found there. it snot hard to understand how a rather cheap bribe akin to beads to the indians can buy off the greenlanders (a million each like what musk was giving out in pennsilvania)

Canada is utter crap. Everyone knows canada has 10 provinces and 3 territories so you'd absolutely have to give this several "states" as quebec would never accept it. British colombia, manatoba, alberta, ontario, quebec. are all each over 1 million populations there are 5 current us states with less than 1 mil populations.

If you followed the electoral college process then ontaria would be on a par with pennsilvania in terms of college votes and quebec would be similar to virginia.

That would totally change the presidential elections.

Not to even mention how it would totally change the senate as each state created would get 2 senators so the republicans might never ever ever have a majority again.

It would be likely that canadians would vote for neither US party and some form of 3rd party owuld end up having the balance of power.

So no trump has zero intent here. he is rambling on.

If Canada was annexed it would imply Trump doesn't intend to ever hold a democratic vote again. Senate is usually fairly well balanced, they won't give Puerto Rico statehood as that would be two more Democrat senators... Same with DC, despite DC having larger population than some states, it doesn't getting representation... Measures to give it some are always blocked because Republicans don't want more Democrat leaning regions electing senators.

They're certainly not going to add a dozen or so more Democrat senators from Canada. Not to mention house of representatives would then become skewed to left as would presidential races.
