You could say similar from the interested clubs perspective too; they'd prefer to leave it as late as possible
It's always a dance. If a player like say alfonso davies is available and two clubs want him they won't wait. They will all have their order of priority
Bournemouth has agreed to sign Julio Soler boosting Liverpool hope of signing Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.
I'd give him 400k for 2 and option of 3rd. 400k is 50k more than he is on now. I think 2 years is enough. The option is one way to protect the club.
isn’t he on just over £350k/week now? It’s not a million miles away from his current contract….im guessing that the contract length is a sticking point but we have no idea what we’ve offered; it could be a package based on performance rather than a straight sum.
It's all about whether you think he is driven like Ronaldo enough to last 3 years or will end up like.... well Ronaldo who's a millstone around Portugal neck for thr past 2/3 years at least This contract would bring salah to 35/36?
I don’t doubt that he’s driven but when his legs go, he’ll not be worth 100k pw so it’s a gamble but one worth taking for 2 years maybe. Throw in the third if he reaches specific goals. 375 for two years with a third automatically added if he reaches a set number of goal contributions. It’s not that far apart so I’m guessing that we are offering a lower package than what he is on now with heavy incentives for appearances/goals/assists .
Trouble is, he can get it elsewhere now. We'll stick to our wage structure; if it doesn't fit, Salah will move on. Same with VVD and Trent. Salah and VVD will be seen as club legend regardless of what happens. Trent won't because he's a local lad
Nah. Salah has negotiated and if we are to even believe such numbers them the general opinion.will be he wanted to stay. Vvd who the hell knows. He has the luxury of sitting back watching the other two tale the headlines or flack while he is the club captain who also ran his contract down Trent will get his cos he deserves every bit of it.
I will have no hate for Trent if he leaves... he's been a good player for the club, but people leave. I'll be annoyed we didn't get anything for him and he left on a free, but I won't have any hate for him (as above, I didn't dislike Owen when he left for Madrid, it wasn't until later that I did when he screwed us twice more). As for legend though... I don't think I'd call him a club legend, a good (nearly great) player, but doesn't quite hit the legend level for me. Nothing to do with being local: Gerrard was a local lad and I think everyone would call him a legend (even if he's also a bellend for going to Saudi Arabia). There are at least three players in the squad better than Trent. Salah, VVD, and Alison. This season I'd say his performance as a whole has been on average below: Konate, Diaz, Jota, Gravenberch, Kelleher, etc... You can't be at the peak playing age, the 7th best player at the club AND still be a legend. (yeah, sure, previous seasons he's probably managed 4th best... but still, you can't be merely 4th best and a legend).
Although "legend" isn't really a word I use Gerrard deserves it as much as anyone. He frequently drove the team on almost single-handedly and led by example. (Sadly he's living proof that being a great footballer doesn't mean you're necessarily great at anything else, but that's another matter.) Trent is nowhere near that level, and certainly won't be if he leaves.
Same, he has my blessing if he wishes to move on (not that it counts for much). He came for free, have us great memories and deserves to have freedom to fulfil his own wishes, whatever they are. Club legend imo
The one thing I really feel like we need to improve on if TAA leaves though is taking free kicks. I don't feel like we have enough top quality in that department, and that's a major thing we will lose if Trent leaves. I feel like we need more good free takers even if he stays.
Oddly it seems direct freekick goals are becoming a thing of the past. When you think about it, how many do you see in games now? We're still crap at corners no matter who's taking them, been a big tail off in this department in the last 2-3 years

If we got trent off the frees we would be fine. Last weekend was the first time ever I saw trent let anyone take a free when salah took it. That told me volumes about trent's attitude. Szoboszlai is a free kick taker. Salah would want every one as well. Macallister would take them. It's not like it's an exclusive skill here trent was given a free way back when as a young lad and it stuck even if the goals from them were fair in between and he operates from further out if anything.
