He is a dangerous individual on account of the huge influence he has over social media and his personal vendettas and bias that he doesn't even attempt to hide. Also given the fact that his vast wealth can 'buy' elections, by virtue of pumping $$$$ into his preferred candidate, coupled with almost blanket coverage for promotion of them and pushing negative stories about the opposition, and you have the recipe for a megalomaniac in control of the systems of democracy.

The fact that this is a guy who has been promoting far right organisations and shutting down his critics is very worrying.

The west bemoans the fact that China has a communist dictatorial political system, yet allows our democracies to be hijacked by the people with the most money and zero accountability.

Funny that right wing guys are a problem with their money but when left wing guys like George Soros use the money and influence to try and overturn democratic results, such as Brexit… That isn’t worthy of a mention.

Farage is now the bookies favourite to be our next PM. I really don’t want him but even this guy would probably be an upgrade on this Labour government. They’re truly horrendous and they’re only getting started. Things will get a lot worse over the next couple of years with these bastards in charge.

Personally, I don't think any of these ultra rich people should be having any influence with their money, whatever colours they wear.

Farage in power would be a ****ing car crash mate.

Absolute disaster, the Labour stuff right now is overblown as ****. They've barely done anything and people who were OK 6 months ago are now at soup kitchens. Load of bollocks.

Take Oldham for example, in 2022 the Tories blocked a government inquiry into grooming gangs, allowing the local authorities to do it. This is in line with government policy of allowing city Mayor's to have more say and involvement in local matters - decentralization.

Labour have the same policy, because it's a good one, decentralized local governments have been proving to work, but when Labour decided Andy Burnham can conduct his own public inquiry, not the government, the Tories demand an explanation from Jess Philips - which Elon Musk used to call her an evil person who should be in prison.

There's a bunch of this going on, people are getting absolutely hoodwinked.

The actual machinations of Govt are quite dull and so nobody really gives it a lot of thought or time (unless you bother to read what actually happens) but as you say decentalised local govt works, as they are the ones 'at the coalface' and often understand a lot better what goes on at a local level and how to manage it.

But we live in an age where vast swathes of people now get their news and politics from twitter, a short paragraph or a 20 second video from somebody with an agenda, and it's passed off as fact, without any attempt to dig beneath the surface and find out the actual facts for themselves. Or to understand why the twitter account is presenting a story from a certain biased viewpoint.

The Jess Philips story is a classic case of people being hoodwinked by this ****. As you say, the Tories also instructed local authorities to investigate the grooming gangs, but somebody like Musk, with his own agenda, billions of $$$$ and huge media influence can change the narrative amongst people who don't bother to check the facts.

Seeing Farage support Musk on his attack on Jess Philips is classic Farage really. He's the UK's right wing grifter, now backed by Musk and Trump and he'll say any old **** that he thinks will hit a nerve with people who are triggered by this stuff, regardless of the facts.

I keep going back to it, but I'm reminded of the crook Arron Banks, during the Brexit campaign he funded, inspired by Trump's first election win when he said 'Facts don't matter' He worked out that Trump's campaign appealed to people's emotions, get them riled up and they won't even bother to check the facts. It's an underhand and dishonest tactic, but unfortunately with an underinformed electorate, it works.

There are wealthy pensioners everywhere in the UK who will be forced to spend 8 weeks in Barbados or the Cayman Islands because they can't afford to heat their homes.

It's the parents of private school children who I'm really concerned about though. I listened to an interview on Radio 4 yesterday from a distraught mother, who was complaining that because of the VAT that he son's school now has to pay, the school has passed on half of the costs 10% to them. She explained how she had spent most of her inheritance money, and that the bank of Nan and Grandad were now having to cough up the extra £4000 per term to cover the costs

    Country's gone.

To be fair, that will probably help to save a fair amount on disability benefits <whistle>

I’ve got no problems with the policy as it happens. Only the hypocrisy of it. When the Tories mention benefits and old people they’re killers and responsible for thousands of deaths. When Labour do it it’s a necessity or something <doh>

I guess that depends who you're listening to.

Like we've just been discussing, there's a ton of noise from social media and a lot of it is just that.

You'll get people slating the Tories for cutting benefits and then praising Labour for doing the same, in the same vein you get people slating Jess Philips for instructing local councils to investigate the grooming gangs, and praising the Tories for instructing them to do the same thing.

As long as the policies are sound, then I don't really care who's promoting them.

I wouldn't go as far as to strangle disability claimants though, even though it would cut the bill by 100%, it's a little extreme <whistle>

All I've see is people banging on about who is to blame, Tories, Labour etc politics!

I don't see anyone putting the children first that are abused at the forefront of our conversation.

We've just had one guy attacked in prison who carried out dreadful abuse on his own child, and as a listening public, we never really get to hear what is done to prevent it from happening again. Oh we hear lots of promises at the time, lots of sorrys that don't bring back a dead child.

So on the outside looking in I do want answers to child abuse and constantly delaying that and pointing fingers, does not help those children. Whether it's the Catholic church, whether it's Pakistani grooming gangs, whether it's TV presenters, whether it's footballers grooming via gifts...I want answers all the time, and we all know nothing is ever done.

So for example, personally I think every professional footballer should be made to go through the process of an enhanced dbs, if you fail it, you can't play.

When you put the child at the forefront of your conversation, I will consider someone is doing something, until then I'm just seeing political arguments.

I do want answers, don't you?

It's much like on here, I put up about the new online bill coming in, only one person, Pompey, actually said it was a good idea. Kids should always come first guys, and even if Elon is playing political games, it don't hurt to challenge the system, even if I think he's a fooking twat.

I was reading earlier about the young girls in Telford , had to stop reading it. The one part especially upsetting.

Social services have been massively under funded and under staffed for years, social workers being attacked, some sexually abused but no adequate sentences handed out.
