There are a great many towns and cities up and down the country suffering from empty shops, low footfall and are generally fairly gloomy places to visit nowadays. No such issues for Leeds though, the missus dragged me Christmas Shopping yesterday and the place was rammed, most of the units trading, lots of new investment in very expensive shopfits and expanded sites for major retailers, it's such a shame we can't even get a fraction of those retailers here.

I was in Totnes last weekend and it was buzzing. Not a huge place but loads of independent shops, no empty units, very few chains, happy looking people. A refreshing change from the identikit high streets we seem to have now.

Unfortunately Leeds has money , financial institutions etc so the locals can support the shops , mind you they are closing more and more streets to traffic access . . It’s a nightmare to navigate now all my visual landmarks are obscured by trendy apartment blocks and the through routes blocked off .
Amazing dept stores have gone here but the nearest broad range stores like Boots and TKMax are doing very well .

A63 Castle Street delayed by a full year. The jokers were recently bragging it was on time to open this coming spring. :emoticon-0138-think

National Highways have issued an update saying: "We’ve now reached a major milestone with excavation successfully completed, removing over 45,000 m³ of earth. With preparations checked and ready, we are set to move forward with pouring concrete and forming the road and split-level junction.

"We have encountered some extremely challenging ground conditions near the Humber that could not have been anticipated before the scheme began.

"Although we have continued to work at pace, it has unfortunately become clear that these unexpected conditions mean that we will not be able to hit our previously published open to traffic date of Spring 2025. We’ve now reached a stage where we have greater awareness of the conditions and how to meet them and are working towards completion by Spring 2026.

I have it in my mind that they gave up once before, may have been when they first looked at doing castle street, was meant to be a tunnel but we ended up with myton bridge.

Spring 2026 is likely to end in early 2027. :emoticon-0138-think

Ouse Bridge deja vu.... what are the odds on Winter 2026.... or even spring 2027...

The tyne tunnel at a length of nearly a mile to just 6 years start to finish... our underpass is about 100 yards...

I wonder what the delay does to the overall budget, probably tens of millions. :emoticon-0138-think

So what exactly is the cause of the delay
    And why a year?

And how was it not anticipated?
Did they only just realise the humber estuary is nearby?

    Speaks of total incompotence

Its a good job we dont have big earthquakes and tsunamis

    Stuff would never get rebuilt

Cant we hire some japanese developers?
