I must have missed Starmer condemning this piece of racism, "full force of the law" and all that selective hard line guff. Maybe a few pictures in the media to root out the perpetrator followed by a stiff sentence to deter others, and space made in jail specially them obviously.

The Manchester brothers that Goldsmith refers to are the ones that sparked out a female police officer at the airport in July and who have still not been charged. Luckily for them they weren't far right, EDL football hooligans who shouted at a police dog.

Well, just report this clip to the police and I am sure they will act on it. The decision on of one officer on the ground is not indicative of the whole police force. Also, why is this so edited down? I hope they have the whole recording as this won’t be enough to prosecute anyone. We need the context of what was said before. The phrasing is weird and sounds like reported speech. May well be something horrible but this video is too short to judge. But yeah, you can report this and the police have to act. Why don’t you do that?

Opened the tread today and was surprised to there was find a difference of opinion so thought it would be a good idea to verify the numbers.
"Is it 500 farms a year?" from https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c8rlk0d2vk2o
"Paul Johnson, the director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS), an independent economy think-tank, told Sky News: "The changes will affect a remarkably small number of some of the most valuable farms."

He added: "[Farms are] still more generously treated, actually, than farms used to be in decades past."

The Treasury estimates that 500 estates including agricultural land will be affected by the agricultural property relief reform per year.

Dan Neidle, an independent tax expert, says the number of actual farms affected is likely to be below 500 per year.

There were a total of 462 inherited farms valued above £1m in 2021-22, according to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC):

  • 345 valued between £1m and £2.5m
  • 80 at £2.5m to £5m
  • 37 above £5m
Under the new rules, those 462 farms would be affected by the 20% inheritance tax on any value above £1m (not on the whole value).

However, as Mr Neidle points out, like for the rest of the population, there is no inheritance tax to be paid on the value of property up to £325,000, bringing the untaxed total to £1.325m.

If a farmer is married, his or her spouse would be able to pass on another £1.325m tax free, taking the total untaxed amount to £2.65m.

There were 117 farms valued above £2.5m in 2021-22, according to the HMRC figures.

In addition, there is an £175,000 tax-free allowance on a main residence when it's being passed on to children or grandchildren. This brings the total untaxed amount for a farming couple to up to £3m.

Steve Reed, the secretary of state for the environment, food and rural affairs, confirmed the "vast majority" of farmers will not be affected by changes. Writing in the Telegraph, he said "only the richest estates will be asked to pay".

Oh, that’s fine then. Only 500 independent farmers a year that won’t be able to pass on their farm that they’ve worked for generations on to their family

Why do you guys think assets are the same as money in the bank?

Most of them simply want to hand a farm down through the generations and continue their way of life - someone like you would smear them as a millionaire and demand they hand it over to the state.

These farmers know the land, care about the land. What will happen now is they are forced to sell, big corps will take over and pay even less tax because corp tax is incredibly easy to avoid compared with inheritance tax.

This is the politics of idiots. Farmers deserve help, following the disastrous amounts of bureaucracy and costs placed on them.

Instead they are being attacked, AGAIN. It makes me furious tbh

Everything makes you furious. You’re so unbalanced it’s tipped over into parody.

Right, Tom and I have had a word. This thread is becoming far too contentious, not in terms of opposing points of view, which is essentially what it’s here for, but in terms of personal insults.

So from now on there will be ZERO TOLERANCE OF PERSONAL ATTACKS ON ANY MEMBER BY ANY OTHER MEMBER.

THERE WILL BE NO FURTHER WARNINGS, JUST A PERMANENT BAN FROM THIS THREAD.

Sounds good to me!

Adding to this, it really shouldn't be difficult to all be civil to one another, regardless of your political view. Having said that, this thread would be a much nicer place if the more extreme views were toned down somewhat. Don't need to change your opinion, just make posts less confrontational.

I'm only here to watch the falling outs and personal attacks.

Rightly so. Attacks on farmers have been going on for a long time. It’s such a difficult and important job and it’s being made virtually impossible by the government.

Communists target farmers because they control the food. Stalin did it and it led to 7 million Russians starving because central control doesn’t work.

For some reason the socialists in the EU/WEF/Liebour think that they can expropriate them with different consequences. It is extremely foolish.

‘President Biden has authorized the first use of U.S.-supplied long-range missiles by Ukraine for strikes inside Russia, per NYT’

Ah the military industrial complex can’t have Trump coming in and making peace… gonna try and kick WW3 off before they are forced out, huh

Or, giving Ukraine a chance to gain back some ground before the inevitable peace talks begin. I imagine Trump was briefed on this course of action when he met Biden the other day.

Now look what you've done. It's been nearly 2 hours since this was posted and there's been only 4 posts since. They're all ****ed for something to say if you've got to be nice to each other. <laugh>
