Depends on how much you use. If you're only doing a few lines then you won't feel any impacts of it the following day whereas if you're doing a gram or two you most likely will. Especially if you sit up half the night on it.

Not too dissimilar to other drugs like alcohol I guess. If you have 2/3 pints the day after effects will be minimal whereas if you drink 6 plus half a bottle of spirits you're gonna feel pretty ropey.

In my experience the mental side of the comedown exacerbated by lack of sleep is much worse than the physical side.

Not sure why people are mentioning law enforcement btw. It's not a crime to be under the influence of drugs; only to be in possession of them.

Now of course you have to be in possession at some point in order to consume but you can't be arrested on that basis. You have to actually be caught with the substance on you.

Think it’s more any player doing drugs is immediate ban and refs rightly or wrongly are held to even higher standard as they are the law enforcers of the game.

Referees aren't in direct competition with someone so taking drugs wouldn't give them all unfair advantage. It's just didn't look good

For me it’s not about advantage/disadvantage
Their job is to uphold the integrity of the game
Whilst they can have an opinion it absolutely should not be public knowledge for no other reason that it makes things difficult.

in the old days without all the technology you wouldn’t have had a clue unless you were there and bias was a thing of hearsay

now it’s everywhere - I periodically say this but the game I loved has gone - I struggle with the new stuff.

I actually think we need more technology and less human interaction now but then I talk myself out of that

in the end - this whole debacle is awful for all concerned, no idea what the end game is for its release - not sure I even want to know anymore

Surely we're talking about their ability to carry out their task, not gaining an advantage?

I read it as a response to the post above his and as being compared to players.

    Agreed

If anything, a performance enhancing drug should make them better at their job shouldn't it? Otherwise, why is it considered a performance enhancing drug?

But yes, I was merely posting after other comments.

How does using a physical stimulant improve your decision-making? Sure, amphetamines and cocaine can undoubtedly increase your reaction times and reflexes, but whilst you may reach that button/lever/handle quicker, there's every chance it'll be the wrong lever/handle/button, otherwise surgeons, train drivers, pilots, lorry drivers, etc would not be banned from using them in the course of their duties.

Side note - my dad was on "wakey-wakey pills" (amphetamines) when he was in Bomber Command in WWII. He was retained on active service until 1946 ferrying Commonwealth soldiers home. They stopped being given pills the day the war ended. Make of that what you will. :emoticon-0112-wonde

I'll take your word for it mate. I was basing it purely it being a banned 'performance enhenching' substance

Like I said, I've only ever done weed. Some of that before reffing a game and I'd fancy a nice sit down in the centre circle.

Not sure anyone is claiming Coke is a performing enhancer.

Nah, Maradona definitely didn't get accused (for 30+ years) of cheating after taking it mate <laugh>

As I said, I was basing it purely on it being listed a a banned 'performance enhancing' substance. If it doesn't help with performance, why is it a banned substance?

Maybe athletics and sports would be more entertaining if they forced all the athletes to get high before each game. And to keep it fresh, it's randomly decided like the coin toss.

Today's game Bolton vs Newcastle will be... Cocaine.
Sheffield vs Mansfield and the players will all be taking meth.
Meanwhile Chelsea fans are complaining their team is taking LSD for the third match in a row when they face United.
... And earlier today in Everton vs Spurs, everyone took Ecstacy, and all joined in a 22- man snog when Son scored his first goal of the day
