Looking at the gap between the first two games, confirms the rumour that the PGMOL knew about the video that has since been leaked. He was kept well away from our games for a long time. Certainly begs the question, why?

Could be the fact the klopp fight was "public"

Maybe klopp got his way of pgmol after all.

    Who knows.

Well the one referee you'd expect to be kept away from our games if Klopp's poor public 'relationship' with him was anything to go by, would be Tierney and he got more Liverpool games than any other referee.

PGMOL rules out drug testing officials because UEFA and FIFA currently are not enforcing the same measures.

Given players are subject to it you’d think refs would have already been subject to same rules.

There is a clear difference between players and referees taking banned substances.

Players are in competition, they are competing against other players. Taking a banned substance is cheating because it potentially gives them an unfair advantage.

Referees are not in competition. They don't gain an unfair advantage. It's just immoral and doesn't exactly set a good example either.

I agree referees should have to take tests too but not just because the players do, their environments are different.

I get your point and Bisc's point and I don't think what each of you has said is at variance at all. Everyone involved in the game whether players, officials or VAR, should all be drug tested because while, like you say, they have different roles, they all have an influence on the game.

I disagree, to an extent, in that having a head full of amphetamines and/or cocaine most definitely affects decision-making and judgement. Something I would say that has been evident in Coote's history as an official, and that of several other PGMOL referees.

I was just making reference to bisc saying they should be treated because players are.

Yes, I agree completely with what you said. Players will take performance enhancers to cheat. A referee taking them isn't cheating or taking them to gain an advantage over anybody.

I think probably what I was trying to say is that drug testing doesn't have to be for the same reason.

Drugs doesn’t necessary give players an unfair advantage. Not all drugs are performance enhancing. Some drugs will have a detrimental impact on the referees performance and they are supposed to be performing at top level to maintain integrity.

Football has zero tolerance for drugs. No exceptions.

I know so many people who are subject to random drugs tests in warehouse jobs, field sales, delivery drivers…. Astounds me that a referee for a multibillion pound organisation wouldn’t be subject to them <laugh>
