It's front page Spanish news still - massive emphasis on why better and earlier warnings weren't given, politicians, civil servants and scientists going to be grilled at a national public inquiry.

I’m not sure of the ins and outs, but I’m sure that penis was part of the problem .

It was the worst event since 1957. The flooding was not on the scale of 1957 or this one. What caused it in 1957?

Good to know we aren’t the only country with useless, inefficient politicians, civil servants and scientists.

After it flooded in 1957 they diverted the natural river bed around the outside of the city and then built a whole complex in the OG riverbed including a new train station for Spain's excellent high speed rail network. It’s pretty impressive to be honest.

So rain was rain in 1957 but now rain is climate change? OK.

it was well known for weeks that a storm was incoming…that’s why I avoided Mallorca & went to Lanzarote. It wasn’t a surprise event

The severity of it and the amount of rain that fell in a short space of time was a surprise. Though heads will roll given the lack of preparedness and poor response.

Climate change deniers love a bit of whataboutery, dismissing examples of extreme weather by pointing out that there's always been extreme weather.

    There has.

The climate change element isn't about one off events, it's about the unprecedented regulatory with which such events are now occurring.

Maybe…the surprise seems to be where the heavy rain fell…in the hills above, but the storm was well forecast.
3 weeks before my skipper said don’t come, make other plans. Not safe to go out to sea, will not be comfortable in port

Climate change directly attributable to human activity.

It was warmer in this country in Roman times. What caused that, all those 4WD chariots?
