They won't be getting the Donbas or any of the other regions Russia have invaded either. That's Trump's 'I'll end the wars' stance, by giving the aggressor what they want and making the invaded nation surrender. It will be the same with Israel. Most of Gaza will get annexed along with the West Bank and Palestinian refugees will probably flood into Egypt and Jordan. I just hope @Sucky ain't moaning about it when more refugees start trying to come to the UK on the back of Trump's policies in Ukraine and the middle east.

I suppose the important bit for me in all this, and taking out any propaganda from both sides, how many of the areas currently occupied by Putin's lot, actually see themselves as Russian or don't give a toss who controls them. I think it would then give everyone a better idea of where the new boundaries should be set. No point squabbling over bits of land where the residents don't give a shhite, IF such feeling exists.
I think ultimately there is going to have to be some kind of settlement over regions. And like you say, some parts of Ukraine see themselves more aligned with Russia. The problem is that those parts have been part of an independent Ukraine since the end of the USSR, and that includes Crimea. But there's no way the Russians are now going to give up Crimea. Maybe you need to have some regions that have autonomous control, a bit like the Basque in Spain, or maybe Wales and Scotland in the UK. I know those models wouldn't exactly replicate in the Ukraine/Russia equation. Anyway, Trump reckons he can sort all of this out in a day lol, so there's nothing to worry about....
If Zelensky's clever (and I think he is) he'll accept that Crimea is gone (and probably prefers being part of Russia anyway, based on ethnicity, language etc) but makes a huge song and dance about it before 'grudgingly accepting' ... on condition that Ukraine is given free reign to joint NATO, EU... etc ...

Ukraine joining NATO is a big red flag for Putin, but there has to be some kind of deal for Ukraine if Trump withdraws support and effectively hands those territories to Russia. That said, Trump is pretty frosty on NATO anyway, so maybe a NATO without the US in it wouldn't seem like such a threat to Russia. EU membership would be down to the EU and I think they'd expedite it and possibly increase military aid for Ukraine. The danger with Trump handing Russia what they want, so that he can claim a 'win' is that he'll not only throw Ukraine under a bus, but he'll also leave Baltic states at risk of invasion from an emboldened Putin, and in turn give the green light to China to invade Taiwan.
