Opta Stats: QPR v West Brom : Opta : UK & Ireland Football Opta / Michael Lintorn / 01 December 2011 / Leave a Comment QPR's new-look defence haven't quite looked unbreachable thus far If there is one conclusion to be drawn from the stats for this match, it's that West Brom are in trouble if they trail heading into the closing stages... Third QPR appointment of the season for Atkinson Thu 01st Dec 2011 19:58 by Clive Whittingham Martin Atkinson, arguably the Premiership’s top referee, has his third QPR appointment of the season this Saturday as Rangers host West Brom at Loftus Road. http://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/queensparkrangers/fb_news.php?storyid=15005
MACKIE: TIME TO BOUNCE BACK Jamie Mackie has backed Rangers to bounce back from last weekend's defeat to Norwich City when West Bromwich Albion come to town on Saturday afternoon. Mackie was one of the stand-out performers at Carrow Road as the R's succumbed to a narrow 2-1 defeat in an end-to-end encounter. However, despite that setback, the Scotland star is confident Neil Warnock's men can respond with a crucial three points at home to the Baggies this weekend. "We weren't happy with the result at Norwich - the lads were all gutted because we thought we were good value for at least a point there," he told www.qpr.co.uk. "You need to win your home games in the Premier League and I strongly believe we can do that against West Brom this weekend. "We've played well at Loftus Road this season, but haven't necessarily got the results we've probably deserved." Mackie is fully aware of the threat Roy Hodgson's men will pose come Saturday afternoon, adding: "We certainly won't be taking West Brom lightly. "They've got some quality players, especially some of the Scottish lads who I know well, so we know it's going to be a tough game. "It's important for us to get another home win though. Our home form will govern our fate this season. "We're very much looking forward to the challenge of playing West Brom in front of another packed house at Loftus Road." Following Saturday's clash against the Baggies, Rangers travel to Anfield next weekend, before playing host to reigning Barclays Premier League Champions, Manchester United, on December 18th. "There's always tough challenges around the corner in the Premier League and they don't come any bigger than back-to-back matches against Liverpool and United," added Mackie. "But the lads are absolutely thriving on it. It's a new feeling for some of the squad to be playing in the Premier league and we're relishing every moment." iReader
QPR v West Brom QPR were unhappy about their defeat by Norwich last week and WBA got well beaten at home by Tottenham. I'm pretty sure both of them will be happy with a point this time. Rangers' home form has been a worry. It's because they don't get many goals at Loftus Road and also they are not very good at coping when teams counter-attack them. When the game is open, they make it too open at the back, and you feel teams can hit them for a few. This game will be pretty tight, though. When Baggies boss Roy Hodgson suffers a defeat like the one against Spurs, he circles the wagons. He will have been working on his defence this week, filling in the holes. Hodgson needs to get his attack working again too, though, and has been trying to get Peter Odemwingie fired up. He also needs to get Shane Long fit again as soon as possible. Prediction: 1-1 Here are all of Mark Lawrenson's 140 predictions for the 2011-12 Premier League season, together with how the League table would look like if those forcasts were all correct... http://www.myfootballfacts.com/Mark_Lawrensons_Predictions_2011-12.html
Northy, don't think there will be a lot of banter with baggies fans this week, just had a look on their board and there has only been 43 threads posted!!! Even the tumbleweed looked lonely!
Boing boing Baggies yo-yo no more – opposition focus Thu 01st Dec 2011 22:20 by Clive Whittingham Saturday’s opponents West Brom seem to have finally cracked the art of staying in the Premiership, and they’re a much more palatable example to follow than that set by Stoke City. http://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/queensparkrangers/fb_news.php?storyid=15010
QPR star wants bragging rights over West Brom pals JAMIE Mackie is desperate to beat West Brom tomorrow – and claim bragging rights over his Scotland team-mates. The QPR forward is hell-bent on defeating the Baggies and getting one over on international pals Graham Dorrans and James Morrison when the sides clash at Loftus Road. He said: “A couple of the boys play for them. They've got some real quality so we won't be taking them lightly. “I don't want to give it too much but hopefully we can get the result and throw some more banter there way. “We've got to look to get points against everyone at home. We've shown against Chelsea that this place is a hard place to come to and we need to make it like that again at the weekend. “However, it's more important to get points against the teams who are in and around you.” Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for the latest QPR news. GAFFER: 'BAGGIES A TRUE TEST' Neil Warnock believes QPR could do a lot worse than 'follow in the footsteps' of Saturday's opponents, West Bromwich Albion. Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk ahead of tomorrow's clash at Loftus Road, Warnock had nothing but praise for the Baggies, commenting: "West Brom epitomise where we want to be. "They're a well-run Club and they've got some very good players. "Roy (Hodgson) is a great Manager and a good person too. The cap fits for him at West Brom. He deserves a Club like that. They're a good fit. "It will be a tough game, but they all are in the Premier League. "They're a very good side and they played well against Spurs last weekend." Warnock is hopeful Shaun Wright-Phillips will come through training this morning, despite leaving Carrow Road on crutches last weekend. "Shaun will train this morning," said Warnock. "He was on crutches last Saturday, but we're optimistic he will be involved if he can come through this morning." Adel Taarabt could also return to the Rangers squad, whilst Kieron Dyer and Matt Connolly are knocking on the door for a First Team return. "Adel has looked sharper this week," said Warnock. "Hopefully he'll be involved if he doesn't get any more stomach upsets or tummy bugs. "It's been a good week for him this week. It's difficult for Adel when he comes back from international duty. It takes us a while to get him back to his best." The R's gaffer added: "We've had a lot of injuries - people don't recognise that. We need to keep players fit. We will need an injury-free run-in. "Dyer and Connolly have joined in training this week. Kieron was our best player in pre-season and Connolly had a good time too, so it will be huge having them back. "I don't know how far away Kieron is from a return. I think he wants to play at Liverpool next week, but we'll take it day by day." iReader
QPR v West Brom By John Roder Match of the Day commentator http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15901976.stm
DEZ: 'A HUGE GAME FOR US' Posted on: Fri 02 Dec 2011 Shaun Derry admits that Saturday's clash with West Bromwich Albion at Loftus Road is 'a huge game.' Tomorrow's visit of the Baggies is Rangers' first in a hectic run of Barclays Premier League matches in December, with Neil Warnock's men set to face Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal over the festive period. The R's currently sit in a healthy 11th spot in the top-flight and, while Derry understands the tough task at hand for QPR against Albion, he stressed the importance of getting points on board ahead of fixtures against teams challenging for the title. "It's a huge game for us," Derry told www.qpr.co.uk. "West Brom have been on a run of form, but we're playing them at home and hoping for three points. "If we can put in a performance like we have done for the last two or three games - especially against Stoke and Man City - then we're hopeful that we can get the three points." QPR picked up a 2-1 defeat in their last Premier League outing at Norwich City. And Derry admits he was disappointed not to come away with at least a point. "Grant Holt made a real impression when he came on," he added. "Holt and Wes Hoolahan caused us problems in the last 20 minutes. "I was a disappointed that we didn't get anything out of the game, but that's the Premier League for you - it's very hard." Derry continued: "I think that we're more than holding our own. We've played very well at times this season. "Sometimes - like last week at Norwich - you think you could have got something from the game and when you don't, it disappoints you. "But I suppose that's just the quality of the league - you've got no divine right to win games, just as we saw last weekend." After Saturday's contest with Albion, Rangers travel to Anfield to face Liverpool next weekend before welcoming Champions Manchester United to W12 eight days later. "They're tough games but we've already shown that we can play well against some of the top sides - Tottenham, Chelsea and Man City included," Derry said. "Sometimes you get points that you don't expect to come across, like against Chelsea, but I suppose that's just the league. "You try and claim points along the way and if you can get a lift by getting others that you're not expected to, that's a bonus." iReader
CERNY: EXPERIENCE HELPED ME Radek Cerny says that his long-standing experience in the game helped him through a first appearance of the season at Norwich City last weekend. Injuries to first-choice keeper Paddy Kenny and Brian Murphy meant that Cerny was handed his maiden start of the Barclays Premier League campaign on Saturday - and a first competitive one since May. The R's went down to a 2-1 defeat at Carrow Road but not through the fault of Cerny, who put on an steady display - including a smart one-on-one save from Steve Morison in the first half. "I think experience helps," said the 37 year-old, speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk after training this morning. "I didn't play much last season either but played the last two games. "For me, it's easier for a goalkeeper that has experience because they've played lots of games in the past. "But still, a player needs a couple of games because it's about making decisions." He added: "It's nice to be back in goal. I was just disappointed when we lost. "There wasn't too much to do. I had to make a couple of saves, one of which was a one-on-one situation. "I think that we were a little bit unlucky with the goals. We were disappointed after the game because we didn't get any points." West Brom's visit to W12 on Saturday, however, hands Rangers an opportunity to return to winning ways. Cerny, who is likely to resume in goal tomorrow afternoon, added: "It's important that we get a result this weekend. "In the Premier League every game is tough, but we have to try and win this one - especially at home. "We haven't won too many games at Loftus Road this season. "Next week we've got Liverpool and then Manchester United - they're not easy games. "We have to be prepared for everything and try to do our best. "West Brom are a good side. They try to play and it definitely won't be an easy game." iReader

Is this the 'Official Match Thread?' No disrespect Northy, you do amazing work on here and it's much appreciated. I just wondered why there isn't a thread with a bit of banter between the two sets of fans. In my opinion it adds to the match build-up. Do the 'Baggies not post on this site?
And had one save to make and bottled it. Great to have ye back Raddy! I think you've answered your own question there '999
Thats a shame Swords, it all adds to the game for me. Still, I will be there with my two little girls ( they love it! )and the Mrs tomorrow, giving it our all in the upper loft. Come on Rangers, we need 3 points tomorrow, we need a win, otherwise my weekend is ruined.
