Another issue with percentages is that they give the impression everything that they measure is identical (or of equal value). For instance, Charlton won 44% of aerial duels. Which 44%? Duels that had a crucial outcome over the next phase of play? Duels that led to a goal-scoring opportunity within the next minute? Or duels that were forgotten five seconds later as play was influenced by something else. Challenges, territory, passes, possession, cards, corners, Xg... All to a greater or lesser extent meaningless. The only stat that really matters is goals scored or conceded. And how good or embarrassing those events are can be seen by every fan with eyes. They can't be clouded with sheets of numbers and percentages.
It’s all a load of cobblers Lardy - what matters is did we win or lose , and up to a point did we play well
It's a bit like Chess. Controlling squares on the board & capturing opponent's pieces can be means to a victory. But they are not the objective of the game. A clever player can craft a checkmate without controlling more squares or having more pieces on the board. Misdirection and sacrifice an be weapons just as potent. Clever football wins matches. Not trivial percentages.
Hawtrey (Seriously Red) is a genuinely boring man, and yet he seems to have no idea that he is . Other than the match thread , he’s accounted for 50% of the posts on ITTV this week, yet nobody engages with him or Likes his posts. Just for once can he try deviating from his tedious “let’s see where we are in November” (posted yeaterday) and “perhaps we might sign two new players in January “ It’s soooooooo boring.
From a points perspective, isn't a draw only 33.33 recurring % of a win? Which in theory makes it 66.66 recurring % of a defeat. But in reality a draw is infinity % better than a defeat, as 1 is infinity % greater than 0
No surprise at all that the flaccid bean counter Charles Hawtrey is in favour of the Wrexham gimmick According to Charles, Wrexham has a huge social media presence …. it’s just a shame that they don’t buy tickets for the away end, so this social media presence doesn’t count for a sausage as far as we are concerned.
Can someone explain to the emaciated emu that the extra 15,000 tomorrow (there won’t be anything like that many) are not there to watch Charlton, or even for the football. Is it really that difficult to understand ? Day trippers and Vloggers are not CAFC fans you …
At last the day dawns! The Circus is coming to town... On with the Motley "Elsewhere some are whining about the cost and indignity..." I feel like I've just been savaged by a dead sheep
So much for attending games, lounges and drinks.............he did not go to the game last night "Watched much of the game on Sky and Small was impressive. When he decided to outpace his marker, he beat him every time AND also put in decent crosses, out of the keeper's reach. Was that down to coaching, or simply having more space seeing as opponents were less experienced?"
According to the 6 stone Crombie-clad waffler, it’s up to the club’s Marketing Department to ensure the “8,000 new fans” come back for Peterborough, etc. And there’s me thinking that it was entirely dependant on the quality of the team and then playing attractive football.
