East Riding population 350,000, Hull population in city boundaries 268,000. Wearside including Sunderland, and that extends to Hutton Le Hole, 345,000, of which 168,000 live in the city boundaries of Sunderland. Doesn’t include the city of Durham though.
In reality, their catchment extends to Hartlepool,.Darlington Bishop Auckland, Consett so we'll beyond Hetton and Chester due to the quality of transport infrastructure, which is again down to population density due to the fact it's part of a larger conurbation, not just a relatively isolated city with more rural hinterlands.
Darlington is a lot nearer Middlesbrough than it is Sunderland. In fact Middlesbrough is nearer to Sunderland than Darlington.
Bout the same travelling time and Sunderland have traditionally been the bigger club, so there are more Sunderland and Newcastle fans in Darlo than Boro. Like I say, it isn't about distance per se, it's as much about infrastructure. Fast roads, express busses and trains.
Same distance Scarborough to Hull and Scarborough to Middlesbrough. Pleased to see that although they are in North Yorkshire a fair few were on the train to watch City against Yorkshire. Was talking to 2 of them, both absolutely pissed up, had been to every game home and away this season. They were talking to a couple of lads I know from Brid they had met on their travels away. Funny, though Scarborough is in .North Yorkshire can’t recall seeing anyone in Scarborough walking around with any Middlesbrough gear on down the years. (Await the usual suspects coming on to tell us they have seen dozens every time they have been there.)
Like I said before,.it's not about distance per se. It might not be further to Boro from scarbados than Hull, but there is a direct train and driving it is a damn site easier too as the moors are in the way going north. Faster roads to Hull.
When we were looking so inept preseason I wondered whether Walter would make November.
He's made November.
So, I'm now wondering if he'll make December?
We've got six games in November, starting tomorrow.
Three in 8 days - then another bloody international break - then three in 7 days.
He could be gone by next Sunday. A minimum of 4 points is required I suspect.
If he survives that I guess he'll need another minimum 4 points to see December.
So, 8 points minimum for December, more hopefully 11+ if we want to hang onto a hope of a top 6 finish.

I hadn't thought much beyond the international break, but concur that 4 points minimum required in the coming week if he's going to avoid being under significant pressure again.

About twenty years ago I had to go to Peterlee on work related activity. Spending a bit of time up there with the locals. They were all cardboard Mackems...And they say Hull is a ****house. Compared to some areas of Hull, Peterlee was the arsehole of the world. There were smackheads up there, even before the word became common everyday usage. I bet it hasn't changed much..
A community decimated in the 1980s when its main industries were shut down by the actions of an unthinking and uncaring Government.
A similar fate experienced by many communities at the time.

I don’t dispute that much of the area’s rough, but I would have thought that unless we’re going to suggest that people from Beverley say should support Beverley Town rather than City, then surely Sunderland is the local club for Peterlee?
Unless by them being plastics you mean they don’t go to games, in which case the answer’s in the question. It’s an expensive business going to football.
Which? No mines in Hull. And, surely shutting mines was a good idea? Dangerous, filthy jobs that people didn’t want their kids to do.In any case mines would have been shut as we need to reduce our emissions, all 1% of them, to save the world whilst China and India are opening coal fired power stations every week. If they hadn’t been closed Milliband would have shut them now as part of his mad rush to net zero.
Can't really expand on what I said without contravening the no politics rule.
Peterlee was described as the arsehole of the world. It isn't, it's a mid-twentieth century new town which went into decline in the 1980s due to high unemployment. Social problems, such as drug abuse followed, as they inevitably do.
The same happened in Hull around the same time, albeit with different causal factors.
Coal mining and deep sea trawling are both jobs I'm glad I didn't have to do. When both industries went into severe decline 40 years ago a lot of families suffered economic hardships. Neither communities were treated with much empathy by the Government of the time. A more caring group of Politicians would have taken a different approach.
The decline of the fishing industry had nothing to do with the actions of the government of the 1980s though.
