plenty to build on after yesterday. But Christ we need a good centre forward.

Walter gives a limited injury update here. This is an example of how his communication is frustrating though. When Mike White tries to ask about Millar "Are there any initial concerns from the medical team?" as a follow up to the news that he hasn't had his scan yet, he interrupts four words into the question and answers with "No, not yet." If he'd waited for the question to finish rather than assuming the question was going to be inane, he surely could've told us whether the medical team think it could be an ACL or what. I seriously doubt they have no thoughts on it at all. Shota used to rush to answer incomplete questions like that too. It's rude and unhelpful.

I don’t think there’s a lot to see here. He probably doesn’t want to give a lot away, and given he’s not speaking in his mother tongue he doesn’t do too badly. In my view, too many journalists — particularly presenter/journalists — fall into the trap of thinking the questions (and themselves) are as important as the answers. I’m not saying Mike White is guilty of this, but plenty are.

I don't get the criticism (or questioning if you like) of his communication and style. Looking for issues that aren't really there imo.
Gone from being clueless, totally out of his depth, inflexible, ...to bad in interviews! It's like some need a stick to beat him with.
He does right keeping cards closed to his chest and if he doesn't have answers back yet he doesn't have answers to give.

    We have a fan…

My Opinion Has Not Changed’ – Derby County Boss Clear On Hull City

Derby County boss Paul Warne has warned the Rams that Hull City are formidable opponents and believes that the Tigers will finish in the top six in the Championship.
Warne pointed out that Walter’s side are fearless and full of energy and warned his team that they have to push their standards higher than their previous game against Oxford United to match Hull City.
The Derby boss pointed out that Hull spent big in the summer and is confident that Walter’s team will finish in the top six.
“My opinion has not changed; I think they will be in the top six”
    , Warne told Rams TV.
“They did not have the best start, but wow, they have some energy in their team and they are brave in how they play out, but they play like 4-1-5 and have a five across the top line and go for it really.
“So it is going to take a lot of energy from our team and standards are going to have to be up from the other night to compete with them.
“They have won two away games, drawn two and lost one [won two games, drawn one and lost two, ed].
“I might have got that wrong, but that is what I think it is.
“So they are a formidable force; spent 20 odd millions in the summer so it is going to be a really tough game for us but a good game.”

Derby have not lost their last four meetings against Hull City at Pride Park and they will be determined to continue their run at the weekend.

    and this….

I really like them [Hull] and I know every single team in the Champ [Championship] I’m gonna tell you they’re a good team, course they are, no one’s in the Champ by default, everyone has amazing players, they’ve spent 20-odd million [pounds] again in the summer,” Warne told the Rams Daily Podcast.
“I honestly think they’ll be a top-six team. They had a bit of a shaky start, which can always happen when you bring in a lot of new players, I get that. I’ve seen them play live three times this season. I’ve seen them play against Sheff U [Sheffield United], against Bristol City and I’ve seen them last night against Blackburn [sic, Burnley].
“Fortunately their fixtures have always fallen, enabling me to go, so perfect timing… What I’ve made of them is that they’re brave and they’re athletic and they’re aggressive. So they’ve probably got the perfect mix and when everything works, they look unstoppable.”
Whilst Warne was full of praise for the Yorkshire outfit, there are some areas of their game he’s targeted as ‘vulnerable’ and will aim to exploit this weekend.
Under the style of the aggressive German, Tim Walter, Hull are a team that focuses on building play from defence, using their centre-backs as a source of creativity from deep.
When they can pull it off, as Warne said, they look brilliant but more often than not, overplaying in defence and failing to clear their lines leads to vulnerability.
“With every team when you see them at their worst moments,” Warne adds. “They look really vulnerable and I think a bit like our team, the best thing about them is their worst things and vice versa.
“They try and play out, I say they try when they’re very good at it, they have a system like a 4-1-5 and they have a real aggressive frontline. However, by playing that way, it gives them a lot and also by playing that way, they’re vulnerable a lot.”
If Derby can execute their press effectively, starting with Jerry Yates and Mendez-Laing, the Rams can catch the visitors out when they try to overplay.
The introduction of Marcus Harness can also be the catalyst for exploiting Hull’s weakness, and he deserves to start on Saturday.

Maybe he wanted to ring Paul Warne himself and be the first to let him know which players we have injured or unavailable?

We didn't spend 20 odd million did we? He got our away record wrong and the last couple of games we've moved away from the gung ho stuff a bit, although we might as well only have 1 in midfield the little we use it

Nah, Warne will just ring up Pete O'Rourke, after all he'll know right now who will be playing for us on Saturday. :emoticon-0138-think

Agree, another reason to sack him.

It's very normal for a manager in that circumstance to say "It looks like it could be a bad one", or "We're hopeful it's not the ACL but the scan will say for sure" or whatever the reality of it is. The problem I had with it is that he doesn't even wait for the question before answering it. He seems to assume that White is going to ask essentially a repeat of the previous question and rushes to answer that, but what he actually goes on to ask is what the medical team thought of it. It's just a weird way to talk to people whatever your job is.

He's obviously very unlikely to play on Saturday and Derby will be entirely aware of that already.

Sinik may get some minutes off the bench for this one.

Would like to see Palmer and Zambrano get a start.

Not convinced by Simon's yet despite his goal.

Reminds me of people claiming our last manager was a BS artist because of how he spoke in interviews.. some feel the need to find something to bash a manager over.

Hughes 3.5, Belloumi 3m, Kamara 3.5m, Racciopi 8-900k?, Millar 2m?, Burstow 800k?, Mehlem 1m?, Palmer 1.5m? I'm guessing on a few of these but I'm getting up towards 15-16m and I'm probably forgetting a few fees. No doubt there's some loan fees and signing on fees for free transfers too.

EDIT: Oh, Giles too of course for 3-4m gets us to the 20m.

Derby have been good at home, but if we play as well as Wednesday no reason, with a bit more luck in front of goal we can come away with the 3 points.

    Possible team

    Pandur
    Coyle Jones Hughes Drameh
    Slater Zambrano Puerta
    Belloumi Bedia/Jao Pedro Kamara

4-1-5 is a pretty accurate description of our formation lmao. I suppose when one of the centre-backs rotates into the holding midfield position it creates a 3-2-5 shape which lots of teams use in possession these days, especially with inverted fullbacks.

    Normal, but entirely pointless.

If he either doesn’t know what the medical team think, or they don’t know what they think, or they all know but don’t want to say, or whatever … what does it matter?
We’ll know eventually, no need to rush for information asap as far as I’m concerned, because it won’t make a happeth of difference to what is done about it.
