Two players id like to see us go for; Jermain Defoe, ultimately Bruce's downfall was the lack of someone who could put the ball in the back of the net and JD is one of the best around imo. He's 29 so shouldn't break the bank and has openly stated that he needs to leave Spurs to play regularly. O'neill might be able to persuade him. Despite what Cappellos agenda is, if Defoe came here and did the business he'd be on the plane to euro 2012. The second player is Peter Whittingham from Cardiff. I know people will see that and turn there noses up simply because he plays in the Championship "we need better than championship players" "even Darryll Murphy looked good in that league" etc. However those who've actually seen him play will know how good he is. He's left footed and can play on both wings or through the middle. He's also a set piece taker and would give Seb a run for his money. He scores goals too, 20 in the league two years ago, 10 last year and this season has 7 in 18. He's 27 now and more than capable of stepping up. Interestingly has played under O'Neill as a youngster and despite selling him (as he did with Gardner) will know how good a player he is.
Cannot see Defoe wanting to leave spurs and cannot see Spurs wanting to sell. He has been a key player for them so far this season As for Wittingham ain't seen enough of the lad but rather go for someone else 2bh
I don't think Defoe's going anywhere matey, besides which there's no value in English players. Every club knows that a decent scout will get you more value in Europe or further afield. I think one thing worth noting for any club looking to shop in January is that they should keep a close eye on the Eurozone over the next few days. They have 8 days and counting to get the crisis sorted or we could see the end of the single currency, with massive shockwaves throughout the world. Who pays players wages? Fans do of course (for the most part, unless you're Sheik Mansour), what happens when fans have no money? They cannot afford luxuries such as merchandise, tickets etc. WHEN the Eurozone crashes (saving it in 8 days is only delaying the inevitable), prepare yourself for more value coming out of Europe than ever before, at least until the knock-on effect hits the British Isles.
It would be nice for Short to reward the new manager with a big signing in Jan. A striker is badly needed
overseas is the place to look for players, I hope MON has some good scouts he can bring to the club. Look at Newcastle they have signed Tiote and Cabaye for peanuts and look how good they are. We should be taking note of the other leagues across europe and further afield
Let's not forget we still have Gyan and Riveros on our books - They might not have fitted into Bruce's style of play but if MoN comes in, I'm sure he'll changes things up. Don't beat me up about Gyan comment... He is still our player regardless of whether we hate him or not.
Id have Gyan back, he's quality player and I don't think he was the only one to blame for him leaving. The other person has now gone too coincidentally.
He will sign British based players he always has. You name a player Oneil has signed that was from abroad and an unknown quantity in the UK?? Most of his teams are made up of British/Irish players or players who have been based here for a period of time. In some ways that is why his squads have been so expensive. Personally I think he will only make a couple of signings and sell a couple, he will then get the best out of what we currently have. I can see Meyler being bought in regularly, I can also see him getting the best out of Richardson in a more advanced role.
I think your right about that, looking at the players he bought at Villa. People say he wasted loads of money but there was only the 08/09 season when he brought in 9 new players that this can be said.
Defoe and an unknown as MoN first signings whilst we are ****e? Nah....sorry, he will have higher hopes than this...hopefully.
he has been doing a lot of TV work for the past year or so, cant remember what now though CL for ITV comes to mind, so he has been out and about and seeing games live, so you never know now. and as English players go for a premium, and most are not all that good, he may be forced to go abroad to find new talent, which has to be a good thing, as long as he doesnt go daft and sign 15 players from abroad, but 3-4 quality editions will do me.
proven striker and a left back. Then let him work his magic on our current squad and see what happens. Oh yes....don't let Elmo anywhere near the 1st team
Two points both linked to transfers First - Do you think MON will be able to get in any players from villa becuase some of there players are real talented (someone like albrighton for example might want to come) Second- MON does he use youth well because correct me if im wrong but did aston villa not when MON left find the young talent in Albrighton and that barry lad
like McGeady but it would be him or Sess couldn't see both in the same team. I reckon he'd cost upwards of 12m too unfortunately. If we are gonna drop that on a single player it has to be striker, Papis Demba Cisse maybe
