Third vote for Southern Comfort here. Haven't touched it since a fateful night around 45 years ago when I tried to impress a girl by necking it straight out of the bottle at an after pub party, during my ill-advised Phil Oakey phase. The fact that I could only see out of one eye due to the bizarre haircut didn't help when the double vision and nausea kicked in. I ended up slumped unconscious in my mate's outside netty and she went home regally unimpressed and not amused. End of a relationship which had never actually begun. Evil stuff that Southern Comfort. Avoid.
All good Ernie, apart from the one glaring error. She never "went home regally unimpressed and not amused" !! She went straight back to the Cocktail Bar she was working in...
Mine was red Navy Rum but not as a teenager, it was after a mates bachelors night out when you could only drink your favourite short. Was on the Rum and blacks all night while the early hours, got home just in time to use the big porcelain telephone. Looked in the bowl after heaving that seemed for hours and saw nothing but red in the bowl. The state I was in I honestly thought it was blood and I could see one of my lungs floating on the top. I loved red rum but never touched since.
The Philogene stuff is strange but Acun is (allegedly) no stranger to making controversial business deals and partnering with problematic people. If the club did something dodgy it would be surprising if Acun was in the dark about it.
Beach party I’d arranged Several coaches full of young people arriving at Fraisthorpe. Went early to build fire and set up DJ on the cliff etc Drank Southern Comfort … Woke up in some young woman’s car the next morning after the party had finished. Apparently it went well, although I did have to answer some questions from the Police about it later on. Was very easy to honestly say I had no idea what happened!
I hope we get a decent replacement and that this wasn't just Acun impulsively sacking somebody Acun obviously divides his time between a lot of things and we need somebody in Hull who knows how to run a football club
When I used to work in insurance always used to get a piece of fruit loaf and a sherry at an early call in Homethorpe Flats. About 10 in the morning. A couple of calls later, still in Homethorpe Flats, the bloke asked me if I liked Southern Comfort. I said yes . He said I’ll get you one as his son had bought him a bottle of it and he didn’t like it. He came back with a Mackeson glass full. About an hour later going down Beverley Road I was pulled up by a copper who asked me if I knew I had a brake light not working. I told him that was strange as I had just had one replaced when my car was having something else done. In fact I still had the receipt in the glove box which I showed him. He said switch on again and walked round the back of the car and gave it a bang. It has come on he said, must have been a loose connection, wished me a nice day and left me to drive home very, very carefully. Would have led to instant dismissal if he had caught a whiff of the alcohol on my breath.
Tan was an agent, therefore I guess would previously be used to getting his cut. Perhaps always a recipe for trouble? Who decided on the Rushworth deal? If that was Tan, rather than Acun, and if — unlikely — Acun didn’t know about the clause saying we have to pay Brighton a seven figure bonus if he doesn’t play sufficient games, well … Whoever left us with - in effect - three first-choice goalies, dropped the ball big-time. Money down the drain with the value of non-playing one (Racioppi) likely to drop rather than increase. Meanwhile Pandur looks like our best keeper since Tony Norman (which wasn’t how many of us felt pre-season).
Which ironically adds substance to Acun being pissed that LR wouldn't play Pandur. Maybe Acun knows what he's doing after all.
Steve Bruce had some interesting financial arrangements with players and their agents. Allegedly. Something fans of one of his other clubs alleged as well.
Pandurs a young keeper Maybe he benifitted from settling in and making his debut in non pressure meaningless friendlies instead of starting mid season and potentially making a mistake and losing his confidence
