If the FA appoint Carsley permanent manager after this then they've lost the plot. He's not going to come close to winning a trophy.

He did better than any England manager for 60 years so hard to say he wasn't good enough to be England manager. I have my doubts we will get anywhere near as close as Southgate got us for a long time.

I understand the point, but it's similar to saying "Russell Martin got us promoted so he did a great job" - honestly, I think Southgate did okay, and is an okay manager that I wouldn't want anywhere near managing my club. I think we're perfectly capable of getting as close, and better, with this England squad if we employ a proper football manager. I'm still incredibly frustrated we didn't go and get Poch the day that Southgate went. Because we could have done, and we should have done.

I wouldn't want Southgate anywhere near Saints - he would be terrible. I don't think people realise quite how different international and club management is. The guy who won the Euros for Spain is primarily a youth coach and has never coached at the top level.

Dos Santos who won the Euros with Portugal was a failure in club management, getting sacked by both Benfica & Sporting.

Southgate was the perfect manager for us at the time as his man management was brilliant and he was able to unite a fractured squad and give them confidence for the first time in 20 odd years.

Not sure on Poch. He was great for us and Spurs for a while, but since then its hard to call how well he actually did at PSG & Chelsea. I hope the FA are going for Pep.

You may well be right on the club/international management thing, it's hard to say. And yes, I agree that he did brilliantly to unite the squad, but I think he's tactically hopeless (and always have thought that).

Certainly going to be interesting to see who they do go for.

If a good man manager who's tactically lacking brings international success England should definitely appoint Russell Martin. The England players might actually be capable of playing his style.

Eastleigh have a home 4th round FA Cup qualifier against Southend today.
Both in the same league but Southend are down the bottom with Eastleigh top 6.
Will try to find it on Saintsplayer later.
