Wouldn’t know about Clinton Baptiste, never heard of him tbh. But when the K clan visited last year we all said how impressed we were with the city in general and how it was getting a facelift after decades of being the poor relations to Newcastle. We spent a bit of our down time when not visiting relatives at The Firestation and really liked it there. And like a few others on here I can remember when it actually was a fire station.

We used to drink at Greens and pass the actual fire station on our way to Roker Park.

Every time we'd fire the most horrendous shyte at the firemen and call them out. They had some big lads and would come out the front to trade insults. It was all 'failed the police entrance test' and 'bum boys sliding down each others poles', etc. It used to get a bit nasty and people walking past would either have a go at us or the fireman <laugh>

One Christmas we bought a big tin of Quality Street, wrapped it up and stuck a model fire engine on the top ...

... we walked into the station shouted them down but hid the present behind us. They came flying out like men possessed and we quickly pulled out the present at which point we all shook hands and wished each other all the best for the season.

I've no idea if you'd get away with stuff like that now but it was all part of the daft crack then.

Living in SR6 I often go for an early walk through the park and along the beach to Whitburn using the Lower Promenade if the tide is in. Its a beautiful ever changing shoreline as the pictures above indicate and we are very fortunate indeed to have it. As always there is room for improvement the Ravine in Roker Park being a leading candidate for attention.

Was back home this weekend (South shields) and we went to Sheepfolds on Saturday pm and it was really good to see it so busy on a non match day. Obv you would expect it to be busier on a weekend but the restaurants had plenty of people in, band was playing/decent and the pubs were v busy. Just not sure about the Snug place - looks out the way and no signage/marketing. Lovely inside tho.
