Flew in very late on Sunday and was doing the medical yesterday, as I understand it. Probably hear something this evening, perhaps even tomorrow, as Feyenoord have the Bulgaria U21 keeper from Levski Sofia doing a medical with them today to replace him
I wonder if we'll make a play for Will Lankshear on loan from Spurs. He's extremely highly rated there, and will be in-and-around the first team this season. They might want to loan him out for a starting place here though. No experience whatsoever, but he really fits the profile of what Martin needs in the centre-forward position (big ****ing lad). Wouldn't be my first choice but if he's as good as he's made out to be, he could flourish here for the season.
Basically saying we won't be spending all the money we have available then. Hard to make a judgement without the facts so we can only trust they are doing the right thing for the club and us as fans.
I don't think it's particularly worrying, to be fair. Building a really strong Championship squad and then adding/loaning some higher talent to it and seeing if you can get over the line is basically the only strategy now in the PSR era. It's exactly what Ipswich are doing and the other recently promoted clubs I just don't like the PSR system at all. It's not fit for purpose, unless the purpose is/was to gatekeep the top flight which, well... probably
Would he have a starting place here? And would the reaction to talk of such a signing be more or less toxic that the links to Brazilian striker with a history of premier league interest who is just unfortunate enough to have been caught on video tripping over? I’ve never heard of him - Wikipedia didn’t have his height and just described him as a “poacher” (which arguably wouldn’t be what we need)
That’s not what that quote said. It mentioned not risking the future of the club? Have people already forgotten when the future of the club very much was at risk?
Bijlow update on Sky Sports Latest from Sky Sports News' Lyall Thomas: Goalkeeper Justin Bijlow is having a Southampton medical today as he closes in a move from Feyenoord. The 26-year-old has had a number of injuries in his recent past, however, having missed 16 games earlier this year and 27 games during 2023. Southampton want to do the due diligence necessary to ensure the Netherlands international is ready to play. Southampton also remain interested in Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale but the Saints will only sign one goalkeeper. Russell Martin's side have not been able to agree the purchase aspect on top of an initial loan with Arsenal so far.
