<peacedove>This is early kick off against the team that won automatic promotion to come to the Premier league.

Leicester won the championship Dribs,Ipswich were second <ok>

A draw in these games is a disaster
Unfortunately we have the toughest task going to a newly promoted team day one
They will be right up for it but we have to win - because sure as eggs are eggs the teams we hope to be competing with come the business end will beat these guys
Leagues can be decided by these games - can’t win the league in August but sure as hell can lose it

Common saying but not really accurate. Leagues are normally decided between who wins games against the top teams.

I have always disagreed this with people who think the opposite way lmao <laugh>
It’s probably impossible to prove but I have always felt that losing to City or Utd away or drawing is an acceptable result
When you drop points to a team In That lower group you were 3-0 up against away and lose a league by 1point I think that is the fixture I would look at and go
Perhaps we should have won that
But everyone is different

I also look at the lower end teams and just look at the numbers - there is a strong top 6/7 now so 13 teams that on paper - IF you are challenging to win a title you are expected to beat
that is 78 points if you win all those

if you do that I reckon you can afford to draw games against the higher end teams
I think not losing to the top 6/7 is imperative as it’s almost a double whammy

if you only win 4 of your home fixtures and draw 1 and lose all the rest against the others you still finish on 91points which on a lot of seasons gives you a crack

think the easiest way to do it is just win them all lmao

but that’s just my opinion of course :)

I think there are many permutations. If the top teams all average roughly the same number of points against the rest then it comes down to how they fare against one another obviously, but it doesn't always work out like that and the reverse can hold true.
I'm pretty sure we've been top of the top six league in the past but not won the league.
So, like you say, win 'em all - keep it simple.

We’ve also lost to city twice by a point and not taken 6 points off them in those seasons.

Tbh no one result determines the league (unless it’s last game of the season top of table clash and you lose) after winning every other game

I totally understand and even agree to a point but I think it’s almost expected that you can and will drop points against a City etc
I think the lower end teams are where we should be picking up points not dropping them - not saying we have the god give right to win them - however points dropped at a Bournemouth or a Watford I think is a bit more damaging
But you are quite right no one game decides the league
I think mine is probably more a frustration thing
However - dropping points on the opening day to a potential relegation candidate is not great
The year we won it - I believe was because of the start we made
We are probably trying to overhaul City IF we are to win the league - possibly even Arsenal
City are relentless
You need to pick up points every week so when they drop theirs the gap gets bigger and bigger
In case we lose to them

anyway sorry for rambling

Team:

Alisson (if not sold)
Trent (if not sold)
Quansah (if not sold)
Vvd (if not sold)
Tsimikas to take frees
Macca
Gravenberch (if not sold)
Szoboszlai
Salah (if not sold)
Jota
Diaz (if not sold)

Subs:
Kelleher (if not sold)
Robertson(if not sold)
Konate (if not sold)
Gomez (if not sold)
Elliott
Nunez (if not sold)
Gakpo
Jones

A bit defensive on the bench so no room for both bradley and Robertson as specialist full backs.

Players like bajcetic and endo may be needed so a defender might need to drop out.

Just shows how there's a large drop off from firsts to the reserved but when the squad if all fit a lot of players won't get a game or a sub slot.

Team:

Alisson (if not sold - won't be)
Trent (if not sold - unlikely)
Quansah (if not sold - won't be)
Vvd (if not sold - maybe/unlikely)
Tsimikas to take frees
Macca
Gravenberch (if not sold - won't be)
Szoboszlai
Salah (if not sold - won't be)
Jota
Diaz (if not sold - looks more unlikely at this point but maybe)

Subs:
Kelleher (if not sold - maybe but it's gone quiet)
Robertson(if not sold - won't be)
Konate (if not sold - unlikely)
Gomez (if not sold - maybe, hopefully not)
Elliott
Nunez (if not sold - won't be, this window at least)
Gakpo
Jones

Only got 8 on the bench so room for endo

Ta.

Thst makes sense I was looking and wondering how I was struggling to make the bench up with lots missing.

It.makes sense to have more midfielders.

Robertson and bradley on thr bench won't make sense.

Konate looked OK v Las palmas but will he or gomez get a nod? Will both?

Again this shows why Phillips and van den Berg will have to go if they have sense.

Looking at our next six games, we need to beat Ipswich.

August.
17 Ipswich. (A)
25 Brentford (H)

September
1 Manchester United (A)
14 Nottingham Forest (H)
21 Bournemouth (H)
28 Wolverhampton (A)
