This myth that Dodds and Speakman are the devil reincarnate needs to end. They both have enough faults to criticise them for without making **** up.

I’ll just say this Bob. As a poster you’re fairly benign. As I understand it you are something to do with players and agents. I would take you more seriously if you read what you type before you hit Post Reply. Please read it through. If it doesn’t make sense then change it. It will make life simpler for us all if we could actually decipher what you post.

I can imagine Bob standing outside the training ground yelling questions at the players the way political correspondents do with MPs walking into buildings.

    "Is Dodds in Speakman's pocket?!?"

    "Is Dodd in Speakman's pocket?!?"

They all ignored him except Ekwah who let out a suave french shrug. That was enough to run with.

Some thoughts from me re the coaching situation.

I believe, and am told, Dodds is a first class coach. By this I mean on the training ground day in day out. He really understands how to work a session to suit the players. Sessions are quite a complex thing to plan and execute at the elite level. You dont pick one from a catalogue and hope it works. Each is unique and invariably has to be flexed as it unfolds. Dodds, in my opinion, has such a good rapport with players he will see when a session could be better, or tougher, or eased off on. All of these are skills a head coach needs other pairs of eyes for. I would not be at all surprised if RLB has already interviewed Dodds for an assistant head coach role and he has got the job. Nothing to stop Regis bringing in another coach to complement them either.

I would say I think the club could do more with a first team coaching setup. Generally speaking I would like to see 3 or 4 assistants to the main man. I would also like to see specialist coaches working part time with the team, such as set piece coaches. The amount of work involved day to day is immense and the more voices you have the better in my experience, so long as you are all on the same page, which is simple enough.

Crikey - he doesn't hold back on Beale and Dodds

During a far-reaching interview with The Chronicle, the 17-year-old said: “The gaffer is really, really good. Especially with the midfielders, he goes into a lot of detail in terms of tactics which I think we missed a bit last year under previous managers. He’s really detailed and knows what we need to do to get into the Premier League.

RLB is anything but a yes man not wanting to rock the boat. He seems very driven and doesn’t hold back if he thinks we’ve played poorly. See the Blackpool game, we won but he didn’t just go “yeah we won so it’s all rosey” he wants more out of the team.

If we get off to a rocky start we need to stick by him

Mentions if the players aren’t listening as well, big hint about Dodds and Beale

For balance, this is from the same interview:

“Mike [Dodds] helped me a lot by playing me and trusting me against the big teams like Leicester City, Southampton and Leeds United,” Rigg revealed. “It wouldn’t have been possible without him.

“I was nervous, but the main thing that he’d say to me every game was ‘enjoy it.’ You’re not going to play well if you don’t enjoy it. That was a big part in me staying at the club because I enjoy coming to work every day - if you can call it that. It’s a dream, it’s what every boy dreams of.”

oh absolutely. I think Dodds is a great coach. Was just interesting the very direct quote suggesting a lack of tactical thinking

Given he was specifically glowing about Dodds and his impact on him in other parts of this interview bundle, it’s at least as likely (if not more so) to refer to Beale and Mowbray.

Help and trust us not the same as tactical understanding. Probably why Dodds is best as the behind the scenes man, coaching and talking to players. Much like people's point with not being one of the main men on the bench. Definitely not the one whispering sweet nothings into the head coaches ear.
