How are Labour doing after their first 12 months

I thought lefties have always said that wouldn’t happen if we go after them?

Already explained this to brb. It's their personal wealth they are shifting offshore, not their investment into the UK

Anyway, we'll see how it all pans out. Words are fine, but the proof is in the pudding.

Duggie better make sure he spends some of that winter fuel allowance he's been hoarding under the mattress before Keir comes and takes it back lol

Okay, so they’ll not be spending it in this country on things that are highly taxable and that the country would benefit from. That’s a shame.

I’m talking about things like stamp duty that they do pay and benefits our economy.

Anyway, they are moving their money out of the country now so they’ll not be spending any of it here.

I thought lefties (you) said that wouldn’t happen when you go after the rich?

What a load of bollocks.

Look, it’s quite simple; if ordinary working people do not feel better off and under less pressure in 5 years time than they do now, Labour will have failed. Then God help our country.

Bit early to write them off now though ffs.

What do you want to do about it then ? Just let them carry on dodging their fair share of tax coz they might not pay stamp duty on another pad ?

Don’t know. I’ve not had too much to say on it because I was never 100% on the impact.

Going after them has had no positive impact on our economy as they’re shifting their money out. You and other lefties were wrong and now nobody is better off, only worse.

there are tens of thousands terraced houses sitting empty just need more homes under the hammer types to renovate them or give LA's and or HA's to compulsory purchase them for a pittance in cerain circumstances .
Thing is mate, I could go out tomorrow and buy a property in certain areas up here for about 30 grand and rent it out for £500 a month. I’d have all my money back in 5 year.

They simply aren’t worth the trouble because of the kind of tenants you attract in these areas.

No, they are shifting some of their personal wealth out. The UK exchequer would see very little of that anyway.

The threat from the rich was that they would move their investments out of the UK, which they won't because there's too much money to be made here for them.

HSBC threatened it years ago and the Tories, to their credit called their bluff and said 'go on then'. They knew they wouldn't do it because the UK economy is worth **** loads to them.

Anyway, it remains to be seen how much more Labour can raise for the exchequer from closing the tax loopholes and avoidance schemes.

It's the right thing to do, to go after tax that is owed to the people of the UK. You and me have to pay our fair share, so should the wealthy.

Making excuses for the rich is what the last Govt did and it's seen a massive black hole in the country's finances that could be used for schools, hospitals, and public services.

We did warn Piskie this would happen and they would all move their money out...but nah, do they listen, of course they don't!

Tax rises will come in November. I’ve notified him about your property empire.

Like all Starmers other plans, he's going to be sadly disappointing, he's got more chance of finding a mud hut on your allotment than finding my property empire. Suppose he could tax your shed.

Ending the Non Dom status and carried interest loophole is part of that. The changes will be systemic, rather than going after particular individuals. I don't think HMRC has got enough staff to chase down individual wealth hoarders, although they seem to do a good job of punishing the little guy if he files his tax return late. Although the serious fraud office could and should be enacted better to deal with serious defrauding of the exchequer.

Anyway, this was from Labour's manifesto

The gap between the amount of tax owed and what the government collects rose to a staggering £36 billion in 2021/22 – an increase of £5 billion from the year before. The number of civil investigations opened into offshore, corporate and wealthy tax fraud opened by HM Revenue & Customs’ (HMRC) has fallen by more than half in five years.

The head of the National Audit Office has recently said that there is £6 billion a year that could be recovered through a concerted effort on tax avoidance.

I don't think there's enough Sucky's for £36 billion, he's going to need a bigger boat.

Seems as though they are only interested in pensioners now, why are we not surprised. <laugh>
