Yes that's what I mean. Although acknowledge Jacob doesn't have time on his side. People had written Fleming off but now I think he'd be preferred to Jacob.
I’m going to mention his name again but I think someone like Cheick Condé from FC Zürich would be a more sensible signing in that position and possibly cheaper. I actually watched him play the second half tonight against Shelbourne as well as the first leg and again when Zürich played Winterthur. Quality player. I think the club want Zambrano in particular because he’s regarded as a South American wonderkid and the next Caicedo with loads of potential and re-sale value if he performs well in the Championship.
I saw the first half of the 1st leg and mentioned him on here, as he'd been one you've spoken about. I thought he was fantastic and a level above in that game. There's been a lot of different amounts mentioned on Zambrano, if it's around the £1.8m it's a worthwhile punt but around £5m, it's one hell of a punt.
also the best player a club can ever get on loan in the championship was Carvalho theres no player even close to him this summer, the only loanees will be first loans, mostly players having their first experiences of professional football
I've said this, the youngster loan pool is weak this year. Very few have any football league experience, never mind Championship experience. But everyone is ignoring that and imagines we'll be able to get another Delap or Morton
Yeah. I think £5 million for a club like ours is a lot of money on one player. It’s bold and it could pay off massively like Philogene but it’s the sort of signing you expect a club like Brighton to make with their position in the Premier League and financial clout. Charlie Hughes would end up costing that or probably more but he’s played at this level before. Like Syd said, development is not linear. Charlie Hughes is only 20 but he’s got the experience and maturity on par with a player in their mid-20s. £7 million on Charlie Hughes would be less of a gamble than £5 million on Zambrano, in my opinion.
I agree. Kesler keeps emphasising the loan market from Premier League clubs once they sort their final squads out later in the window but the talent is very unproven. Rak-Sakyi is probably the pick of the bunch and he hasn’t even played at this level. Plus, half the Championship will want him and even some lower Premier League clubs will want him permanently. Alex Robertson is probably the next best and then who else? Klopp’s cup kids?
You’re judging Delap and Morton based on when they left though not when they came. No one expected the level of impact they had
No I'm not. I can't think of any youngsters in the loan pool who are attainable who've had a least a year of Championship football under their belt.
Jeremy Sarmiento might be one that goes out again who's okay. I still think Tan and the team will pull a rabbit out of the hat at some stage. We had Philogene last summer and then Carvalho in January. Just be nice to get at least one winger and a striker in on top of the CB and CM before the season starts.
Depends who we loan I guess. Doesn’t necessarily just have to be a youngster, KLP looks like he’ll be available, he’s a better pick up than the aforementioned. I really like Devine at Spurs, Edozie at Southampton will need games he’s a talented player. Ipswich you could look at Ali Al Hamadi, Fulham you’ve got Stansfield, Villa have Archer back he could do with another champ season, Moran and Sarmiento at Brighton. Plenty out there
Yeah but we are saying the pool is nowhere near as good but using them 2 as examples doesn’t really work as they weren’t signed as premium loanees.
I think the point is there are no options available with the same level of experience as those two had had before coming here.
Not that we've got a chance of getting... Morton and Delap weren't premium loans, they were loans that were very attainable and had experience in this division. There's not that this year
