On a serious note, I’m not particularly bothered the deal for Thomas-Asante collapsed. He’s a decent player and it seemed out of the club’s control that he went to Coventry.

My concern is that we’re just over a week away from the first game of the season and we’ve only signed a left-back (who was here last season on loan), a right-back we were supposedly chasing for weeks before he signed and one midfielder. We still need another two or three wingers, another striker at least, a centre-back and a few more midfielders.

If we go into the first game of the season with Giles at left-wing, it just confirms what I said a month ago about the club having poor planning at a board level.

What do you make of Zambrano?

Baz reported it as a done deal. I don't know how much more 'known' you wanted it.

You've entirely missed the point of why I've brought it up. There's a reason I quoted that post of mine.

I get that
But marvin was seen at the training ground
Bta wasnt asfaik

Good to see you back.

That's such a strange bar to set on whether a transfer is confirmed or not.

Not sure why you've made this a 'thing'. I was merely interested in seeing how long it would take for Coventry to make the transfer official after he U-turned on joining us and it was indeed roughly 48 hours.

Im not making it a thing
I agree with you
But marvin was literally 'confirmed' days before the official announcement

Bta wasnt

The official announcement is what I'm talking about. <doh>

I know
Im saying
Marvin was officially signed days before he was announced
Its mostly international clearence
But he signed days ago
like marvin wasnt one to get away

i mean, marvins contract was officially signed days ago

My point was very simple:

You claimed the German's transfer was held up.

I said - we don’t know if the German’s transfer was held up, or not held up, because we are not privy to that information.

His transfer was announced today after being publicly mooted less than a week ago.

So, do we now know how long that entire process lasted?

No.

What do you make of Zambrano?

I don’t really watch South American football due to the time difference. I mainly watch games from the Turkish, Dutch, Belgian and Swiss leagues online outside of watching City games.

I’ve heard of Zambrano though. I’ve read a few articles about him on those analysis sites and I remember his name being mentioned as a potential replacement for Caicedo at Brighton before they got Baleba. He’s also been linked with Luton and Bournemouth in the winter transfer window and Man Utd were supposedly scouting him.

He’s good but raw, from what I’ve read. Looks comfortable on the ball, good passing range and quite aggressive off the ball. My only concerns are that he won’t have the time and space on the ball in the Championship based on the clips I’ve seen of him spraying diagonal passes around, the fact his doping investigation is still pending and his height. His height wouldn’t be a major issue if we had some taller players in midfield but we are a very short team with the likes of Seri, Slater, Ömür (if he plays centrally) and now Mehlem. Simons has been impressive in pre-season though so he may get a chance.

We know he had been in Hull for 3-4 days. BTA was at Cov for 48 hours. I acknowledge international transfers have more boxes to tick, which is why I used other examples (which you described as shifting the goalposts) but I don't know how much more objectively you want to compare two transfers than that.

It was one example that sparked the discussion but plenty of others have acknowledged and agreed that on the whole, our transfers seem to take a lot longer to announce/finalise than other clubs. I don't think that's a controversial take but you disagree.

caicedo is what he could be
but his doping, is a conembol penalty, it must be fifa regulated right? so its world wide
does it mean champions league etc?

I was plainly stating that you/we don't know the timeline or schedule of that transfer to know whether it was held up or not (see my original post - 10407

If I am wrong, then tell me the timeline for that transfer and reference your source. That will clear everything up.

Bloody hell I thought the way I finished my post would draw a line under this. As I said - plenty think we take ages to get deals finalised, you don't. We disagree. That's fine.

Yeah and I’ve read somewhere that the penalty could be as long as four years but I think that’s the maximum sentence. Mario Vušković, a player at Hamburg who played under Walter and was their best centre-half, got a two-year doping ban. His ban runs from 15/11/2022 until 14/11/2024 so he could be playing again before Christmas.

I think the investigation hanging over Zambrano has put a few clubs off. I would like to think City have done their due diligence though and we’re not signing a player for millions who can’t play. Even if it’s a six-month ban, that would be a bad look for a club that is currently being scrutinised by some supporters for being a bit incompetent in the transfer market this summer.

Again, I have been unequivocal that I was not disputing the length of our transfers at all.

My point was regarding the specific timeline of Marvin's transfer, which you cannot know if it was delayed or not, as you have no idea of the timeline. Simple as that.

But agreed -, let's leave it there, must be boring everyone on here.

he would def get a better move without the ban

on a player level
he is champions league level ability
i said earlier, us paying 5m is risk fee for those clubs
if he signs for us and does well and no ban happens, 20m+ is nothing to them
but it breaks us

It's a big gamble for us though. If he does get a ban then that's a huge amount of money wasted for a club that was working on a tight budget to begin with.

Even if he doesn't get a ban, if the transfer doesn't work out - after all he's a 20 year old kid - it's a huge waste of money.

i think this guy with no ban, plays champions league
he has that rare level of talent imo
