Sorry WJ I slightly disagree. The team fell away towards the end of the season, Summerville was totally consistent for the final 35 league and play off games.

Having teams double up on Summerville should be a good thing, we should be able to take advantage of that fact, and for games 24-35 we actually did. Summerville's performances in the last 12 games were no different than the previous 23 games, but for some reason the team as a whole forgot ( or the lack of playing experience and the pressure of the situation affected them mentally) in those last 12 games, what they had been doing correctly in the previous 12 games

First 12 games, clubs had no idea how to deal with Summerville

Next 11 games - clubs learnt how to restrict Summerville being a positive influence to some extent

Next 12 game - We learnt how to take advantage of the opposition concentrating on Summerville

Final 12 Games - It all went to ****
You've given some stats, Aski, but I don't see the columns for effort or commitment. That was his major failing, if you watched him live. His head wasn't in the game as the season entered its final quarter. One stat you did provide screams out to me, but is not addressed - in the last quarter of a season, he appears to have only provided 1 assist, if I've understood your table correctly. That extrapolates as 4 a season. Not a lot to write home about, is it?

WJ I did do a response to this, but I also noticed that there was an error in the data collection. So rather than rely upon misleading data, I've deleted the response whilst I check to see where I made a mistake :)

Twitter is full of discontented fans over the selling of Summerville. Maybe we didn’t need to sell him and we could have started the new season with what we have.

I’d imagine it’s more a case that selling him means we can bring in 2-3 players. We must not forget we also have Wober and Aaronson back (wages). We also can’t lose track that Summerville would have had 12 months left after the end of this season.

Summerville was excellent if you take pure stats of goals and assists but it was all done in the first 2/3 of the season, the last dozen games he was poor. His overall performance wasn’t great, we’ll never know for sure but I wasn’t confident he’d hit 10 goals if he stayed

He was our best player Risty. It's a big loss.

I still think we can get more goals out of Joseph and Piroe. Hopefully Rutter has practiced shooting. Having a more forward thinking midfielder in Rothwell should help us too.

I think we will be a better "team" this year. Last year we were a side that relied on individual brilliance too often. We look much more balanced this season.

Oh, the avatar, has Milky got one over you again (so to speak)?

I actually read that thinking it was Eire having a moment of clarity, alas….

WJ just so you don't think I have forgotten about this, and whilst as I originally said "slightly disagree" with what you are saying, and in fact still do, there was an issue with the figures I posted. I've become figure blind trying to work out why the figures don't tally, as any detriment in one part of the table should show an improvement in another but I can't fathom in out so I've given up trying. So I will concede the point that CS had a very poor rate of return in the final 13 games of the season that he played, even when compared to our other strikers.

As to why, well I accept people look at stuff differently to me, so can gracefully accept your point of view even if I disagree with the reasoning:)
