During lockdown, there was a bit of a Twitter community of shirt collectors. It started with people posting what footy shirt they were wearing while they were working from home each day. It progressed from there and people were sharing info about things like different sizing between manufacturers, how to repair them if they'd got damaged, how much you should be paying for vintage ones. It was really good but has died off a bit now.
Biggest issue I’ve had is trying to spot the fakes, the copies are so good now it’s borderline impossible to tell from an image
It can be very difficult. On Ebay or Vinted, I'd say only buy ones that have the product code label shown. If they've still got the cardboard tags on, fake ones don't usually have the club's name on the tag. Real ones do. It's harder for vintage ones though as they don't have those things. There are sometimes little giveaways though. For some reason, the fakers can't get Umbro logos right, especially on the England 1990 WC shirts. They put the size too close to the bottom edge of the collar label on 90s Umbro fakes for some reason too. I've taken a gamble a few times and only been stung once or twice.
I bought this years home shirt from Vinted luckily the tag was on the photo so I could google the code, was still paranoid until it arrived like but it’s 100% legit thankfully, I’ve been stung by those exact England shirts, the Umbro logo is terrible up close and it’s a ‘90s’ shirt yet skin tight that should have been enough for me to realise it was a dud only got myself to blame for that one though!
Valladolid have had some cracking away kits last few years, last years 3rd was sauce as well. Feel like fans are pushing back on the big suppliers and template kits. Dunno what other clubs sales are like but the power of bespoke is evident in our sales.
Hummel delivering some beauties this season. Makes me wonder why Adidas/Nike use the same template for all their kits, even for the big clubs. A little bit of thought goes a long way.
