I'm happy enough with what I've heard.
Everybody loved Klopp so Slot has a mountain to climb in order to get anywhere near his popularity, but I'm willing to get behind him and postpone judgment until we have something concrete to pass judgement on.

I just hope that judgement by fans isn’t made after 10-15 games.

the guy needs a season at least (unless has us down in 15th at Christmas). If someone gave me 4th place and some encouraging football this year I’d bite your hand off for it.

Reading through, there doesn't seem to be a great deal of enthusiasm for the new coach.

Personally I thought klopp had run out of steam, it was time for a change.

Is there anybody who could have come in that people would be happy with?

    It is exactly that.

I'm.not saying I don't back him I am saying it will be fragile relationship for him and he needs to grow it.

The first and most vital thing is to earn the anfield crowds backing. They will lend it 100% but he has to not take it for granted thst tjry will keep lending it.

Thsts why I mention honesty and humility as important.

if the team are giving everything then thry will stick in but to win the non anfield fanbase I'm afraid nothing but flash signings might do.

Fsg have been given stick for years for the same thing.and only klopp being klopp kept them off his back largely.

My view is that realistically we are third best at the very best with arsenal and city will out ahead and a lot of very busy clubs making a lot of fans very nervous chasing us.

I think we've a grand young team and only need one or two real quality additions to keep us third.

the Anfield fans shouldn't need the manager to "earn" their support they should be backing the team period

They will give it but it can evaporate.

We gave souness support. We gave Hodgson suppot. We gave Rodgers support. They all lost it. Some more quickly that others.

We.gave houllier, rafa, Dalglish and klopp more that support. They got love.

Maybe I should say the slot has to earn the difference between team support and love then.

    Well...

    Exactly this.

It took far less than 10 games to see Roy wasn't the right match for Liverpool and he lost my support far earlier than that... other managers, I'm all for giving them time.

Actually, must say, I was impressed the fans didn't turn on Klopp two seasons ago when we had that bad start... I was really gritting my teeth after each bad game wondering if there would be calls for his head... and glad there wasn't, I didn't give up faith in him, but I did think his days were numbered (the fans surprised me, I was wrong).

There's no way fans would turn on klopp.

    None.

That's worship. They wouldn't turn on rafa after it went pear shaped either.

There were lots of fans calling for Rafa's head his last couple of seasons. It was quite disappointing.

    Simple answer... No

In terms of managers/coaches then Klopp was top3 in the world. So unless Ancelotti or Pep were unveiled as manager, then it was always going to be a down.

I think the problem with Slot is that he is coming from a league where players tend to be hit or miss and so far managers have been a miss, which hints at the Dutch league being a lower standard. There hasn't been a lot of talk about him as the future of management (unlike some of the other candidate we were linked with) and he doesn't have a massive track record of winning things (1 league and 1 domestic cup).
Not to mention the owners have a history of being slightly tight when it comes to team development.

Combine those together it does lead to some trepidation over Slot.
Personally I don't see him as the one we need and I'm not sure how long he'll last. Think the reaction to him so far might be the story of how things will go, nobody seems to be excited over him.

I'm happy to be proved wrong and he'll have my support unless we reach a point where it's no longer warranted.

    Martin Jol
    Van Gaal
    Hiddink
    Guillett

Few decent managers in there. Heck even Ten Haag has won 2 trophies in England.

Also in excited by him. His football in Holland was brilliant and he’s more experienced than Alonso who would have come with huge expectations and minimal experience. And Amorim who seems to be bit more hard work.

Any of those do anything impressive managing in England? Best off that list is Ten Haag who was virtually sacked before the FA cup win

Van Gaal and Hiddink were relatively poor in England (although tbf to Hiddink he was only a temporary manager for Chelsea) and Jol was very average.

Also Gullit didn't manage in Holland before England. Chelsea was his first coaching role.

    So your examples are
Someone who played in England and then went straight into managing in England
Someone who's biggest job was Spurs and continued their history of winning nothing
Someone who was at Chelsea for about 6months
Someone who was widely disliked and criticized when managing Man U
And Someone who has 'almost' been sacked god know how many times in 2 years

    Hardly something to instill confidence.

Hiddink poor? You may want to re-check that one. He was brilliant at Chelsea, won them the fa cup and should have got into the CL final but for some awful referring against Barca. Chelsea fans wants him to stay and was best manager since Mourinho.

From what I remember, Jol was really popular at spurs and did a great job there for a team that wasn’t anywhere close to top 4 in terms of ability.

Van Gaal Got united back into CL after awful season and also won fa cup

So yeah, they all did pretty well
