Incorrect. As I pointed out at the time the number of points we got was enough to finish in the top 4 most seasons (8 out of the last 11). If you get 70+ points you'd be incredibly unlikely to miss out on Champions League football (Man Utd finished 2nd on 66 points a few years back). The whole "we only finished top 4 due to other teams doing badly" is a myth you've fallen for buddy.
Unlike his beloved Villa who finished 4th on 68 points last season, due to other teams performing badly.
Usually Liverpool Chelsea and Tottenham don't all have bad seasons at the same time. Newcastle benefited from that.
Newcastle had a good season and some believed they'd actaully arrived, but I think most people knew it was just a good season.
They're many years and hundreds of millions off the top 4 pace in reality.

Your opinion is simply obliterated by the fact that the number of points we got usually gets Champions League football. Factually there are usually a few of the "big 6" who get fewer points than we got and therefore would have finished lower than us in the league - that is the normal event that happens, it's simply not unusual as you are suggesting.
You are obviously welcome to stick to your opinion, it just happens that it's objectively incorrect. I prefer to stick to actual numbers and facts and figures, just my preference.
Oh well he's gone. I recall Jon Dahl Tomasson looking awesome for us in pre-season, the litmus test is over the next few actual seasons.
FWIW I didn't want to sell him but decisions had to be made, it is what it is.
I would have to disagree with that entire argument because if the 3 other clubs didn't all have one of their worst seasons in the very same season more points would have gone to one of those clubs as usual.
Obviously Newcastle collected more points mate and that's why they had a good season, however if Liverpool Chelsea and Tottenham didn't all have a bad season ?
Essentially it was two things
1. 50% of the usual top 6 all had dreadful seasons at the same time.
2. Newcastle had a good season.
Similar to when pardew finished 5th then reality kicked in the following season.

Minteh looks a player to me .. some of his goals would be goals in any league.
We will see I guess and he could end up just being the next rule fox rather than the next salah.
Because your argument is based on a factually incorrect assertion. They didn't have "one of their worst seasons", it's normal that a few of them get fewer than 71 points. Is a fairly normal season a "dreadful season", I'd argue it isn't, I'd argue that's normal. I don't know if you've fallen for the media myth or you're intentionally peddling it.
Oh look we'd have qualified in both of the previous seasons as well (see below).

Note Man City are the only team that would have finished above us on both of those seasons. I'll leave it here as facts clearly aren't your friend on this one and agree that we'll not agree as I prefer to rely on actual evidence when it exists.

I can see your facts and I agree these are what they are. Pure facts.
However it is also a fact that the three teams Rex mentions did in fact have poor seasons the season we got the top 4 finish.
Newcastle had a good season that falls under my second point.
There's no getting away from it .. 3 of the big six were way off and that was the key and will be for many many years. Even Newcastle took points of most of them.
Ultimately Newcastle deserved to finish 4th I never actually said otherwise, but another aspect within my original posts on this subject was that it was simply a good season and Newcastle aren't really a top six side yet... I maintain that belief..

I think Newcastle are probably 3 years away from being as good as some of the fans like to think.... I could be wrong and it's fine if people disagree with me .
I was genuinely interested to know where people think the club actually is.
