It’s done now, we all have off days and putting up with some of those arsehole journos must be ****. anyways onwards and upwards and back to the Roly thread for entertainment
As much as I believe he isn't the man that will take Newcastle to the next level I suppose at this point it's good news if he's staying. The club is still 5 years away from competing for top 6 regularly.
I know what you mean, but I challenge that last part. We are able to compete for top 6. Doesn't mean we'll make it every time, but genuinely able to compete - yes. But are we 5+ years away from competing for a title? Maybe. If the club do replace Howe, they need someone forward looking who will incorporate youth development. As that will need to be our model for a few years. The likes of Mourinho only dine out on having a £billion spent on a squad of established world class players.
They were discussing Howe on talksport just then. They where stating that he would be crazy not to take the England job considering the changes at board level and the fact that he may not get another opportunity. I think Howe would be interested in that job.
I am wondering if the reason we are not making signings is because they want to wait and see if it is Howe taking us forward!
Most DOFs don't work like that, they get the players in they think are right and whoever is the manager needs to work with them. Mitchell doesn't strike me as the kind to wait to get assurances from a new manager. I think he'll be negotiating right now, regardless of Howe's situation.
The problem in all seriousness is Howe is decent at that. He likes constraints, he never seems to clamour for big names and actually shies away from it at times so may be the right fit anyway.
My thoughts are that a manager makes requests to the DoF and then he goes away and finds the players. If that manager is going to change then the new manager may have a completely different philosophy and different demands. I also wonder if PIF have made it harder to get access to the cash. They may want more reassurances about the players they will spend millions on.
Finishing 4th was more down to the fact Liverpool Chelsea and Tottenham had their worst seasons for many years in the same season. It was simply a good season ! Much like the one Pardew had, but it wasn't an indication that Newcastle were already a top 6 club. Last season was about right.. 7th and think that's probably the best we can hope for again. 7th to 10th will be where the club ends up for the coming years I feel and then it'll crank up the in 27/28 season and beyond.
For now at least, yeah. But at some point we need to have winners in the team. There need to be those who have been there and done it at top level. A blend of experience and youth is the best way. As you say, Howe might shy away from those types of characters with big egos. But in the meantime, he might help to get the foundations set up for our younger lads to be ready when that next stage transition is required.
Agreed. I just feel like Eddie has basically shafted himself a little bit by saying what he did. These guys (PIF and the new board) won’t mess around. If he has upset them maybe they are weighing things up. It all feels just a little odd. Howe being bold. Board upset possibly. Trippier afk. The Gordon rumours which will not go away. Wilson injured (is he really). Staveley and MG away and there’s rumours of a bust up. The U21s coach gone. No recruitment of players despite it being so close to the start of the season (ignoring Hall and Kelly and I’m not factoring in the GK position). It just doesn’t feel right?
In a nut shell, rather than saying no to England job he said there’s been a lot of upheaval, he didn’t know where he stood, he likes the club but in the right environment, if he’s happy and able to do things the way he has then he’ll stay if not then who knows.
Correct. And he knew exactly what he was doing too. He feels like he holds all the cards to play hardball. If NUFC want him let him have what he wants. If they want rid then he has the England job in a bag. It wouldn’t surprise me if he has already had contact off the FA and he is keeping it quiet.
I knew about the Staveley/Mehrdad things before it happened. Well that their shares were gone. I personally thought they’d stay front of house. Iranian community is quite small and they talk.
So essentially if he’s not happy he’ll go. No s*** Sherlock. Like anyone in any job. He also said he was happy. Nothing contentious there
I didn’t he it was contentious. Or at least not using that word. @Magdad has already stated more or less what he said.
The entire thing... saying something about it in the first place and using the media as a platform to play out the clubs internal affairs.
