In fact I would argue it drove him to do some of the amazing things he did

Wasn't he about to sign for Chelsea but did a u turn because of the threats against him and his family by the local mob, if he did. Rumours were he was paying Mr big protection money too

I don't think he had any intention of leaving, it was just an ego trip.

He definitely had dealings with the local mafia, on his nights out, usually in Southport, he had a couple of paid minders who were associated with the local mob.
His daughter too was seeing one of the big boys sons

 

Or he just changed his mind after speaking to family. One is a reasonable answer and the other is straight out of the anti lizard book of conspiracy theories. You decide.
