Not sure I am getting the same impression.
Willock...( and his dad/ agent) have been refusing to sign for well over 18 months. The Ainsworth era when he was not played and injured would not of helped. It seems to be common knowledge he was looking for more money than we can offer.
I can also believe that Armstrong trying the same tact will not have gone down well with the new CEO. He is also not quite the player Marti wants...the high pressing player.... let him go....but keep Dykes...a much more hard working player.
Especially if they bring in the same sort of price...and Dykes is also doing his bit...he signed a new contract. So if he does improve his scoring rate...we can sell next year. Next year Armstrong would have been a free agent
It's exactly this.
If anything the mood in the camp looks as good as it's been in years and years.
Sincs and Kolli are proving there is a route from the development team to the first team and this summer's acquisitions seem to be a statement that, that's something we intend to continue. What other team would have given someone as inexperienced as Armstrong so much game time? Whether we should have and why is another matter. His decision to want to leave is likely down to a combination of things but most prominently I guess would be external pressure, I don't think it's a reflection on the club at all, ultimately for someone refusing to sign and holding out for a move he's under performed.
Dykes on the other hand, whatever footballing limitations he might have, is a genuine good egg.
I'd say we look like a good proposition for young players now but their job is to be good enough.
