They didn’t have half a Harry Kane up front either or a manager waiting to go a goal down. Still selfish of them.
Could have had Bobby Charlton up front with Michael Owen and it wouldn’t have made any difference if we couldn’t get out of our own half.
Southgate: "... there was a lot on Kane's shoulders at this tournament..." Yes - but you didn't help lighten his load ... in fact, the opposite He might not have been fully fit, or he's now just that slow - either way it was his 'game time' that needed managing, not that of the younger players ... ... and you also played a system that really exposed his lack of mobility and left him to be bullied by younger defenders ... but more so, you had players in Watkins and Toney far better suited to that system ... but were too stubborn to both admit it and to give them a proper opportunity As for Harry - he'll get his long sought after trophy at Bayern, I'm sure - and deservedly so...
Woke up and no news of us rioting and destroying Berlin? No plastic chairs thrown? It's like we've lost our identity as a country
Starting my review of the England squad/Euro performances. first up. https://x.com/jim_keoghan/status/1812753758129971460?s=46&t=GjXW4PhG0s7kgSMl8GkTkw
I'm not a fan of Kane, great at scoring loads against ****e opposition but not good enough when it really matters.
Pre-Southgate 2010: last 16 2012: quarter-finals 2014: group stage 2016: last 16 Southgate 2018: semi-final 2020: final 2022: quarter-final 2024: final But sure Southgate is the problem
He’s a problem rather than the only problem. He’s been gifted runs of teams other England teams and managers would have got through too and been bailed out by individual brilliance when we were two minutes from a result worse than Iceland. There was nothing to fear at this tournament and again he’s played to not lose as soon as we face a good side- a side not close to as good as some of the best international sides down the years. He’s drab. His tactics are drab. His blind loyalty to ****ing Kane was drab.
