Have to wonder what sort of psychological effect an assassination attempt has on a 78 year old who has barely been clinging on to the last shreds of sanity for ****ing years.

Dark days ahead.

Won't effect him at all but it will be used to galvanize huge support now. The groups in America will start to rise up.

Election is over.

I can just imagine the briefing.
Right, I want you to pop a shot at me. Here’s your rifle and bullets. It has to be realistic so make sure that when I’m up there talking you just graze my ear. I’ll be a bit animated up there, moving my head and stuff so make sure that it’s a good shot. If you miss I’ll have a fake blood capsule that I’ll use. Or I might use a scalpel that I’ll keep in my hand. I’m not sure yet. Don’t worry about all the Secret Service agents around me, they’re all pretty dense and won’t be able to tell the difference between stage blood and real blood though.
Now , here’s the thing. The Secret Service might be a bit thick, but the likelihood is that you’re going to get shot dead. Don’t worry though I’ll make sure your family are ok. Oh yes, if the bullet misses me then it may well get one of the attendees so not only will you probably die but so will the other guy.
But you’re doing this for America, the land of the free.
Now, did you get all that?

:emoticon-0112-wonde

I think my suggestion was maybe he hadn't really been shot at, not that someone had managed to graze him with a real bullet on purpose. Not sure if you are aware like but it is possible to make the sounds of gunfire without actually shooting real bullets at someone. If it was staged I would have been with blanks not real bullets. You read the news 4 hours after I did and I assume then it was more than a quick bulletin that didn't mention anyone else being killed or injured.

People have been killed so clearly not staged. Shows how much of a scumbag o think Trump is that my immediate thought is wouldn't put it past him to stage it to the election over the line!

I didn't see him getting up and pumping a fist, I assumed the secret service wouldn't let him up in that way. He is fortunate without doubt to not only survive but not get more seriously injured.

I think the copious amounts of hair lacquer he uses to keep his giant comb over in place may have "saved" him. It may have deflected the "bullet" from the gigantic orange target that is his head. Either that or the would be "Assassin" must have eyesight like Mr. Magoo. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Honestly, every part of this is scary, we live in a ****ed up world.

1) No matter how much of a whopper Trump is, an assassination attempt is sick and disturbing.

2) The fact that a 20 year old can be in such a disturbing mental state that he thinks this is the solution to the problem is terrifying and it seems to be more frequent than ever over there.

3) So many people's first thought being "conspiracy" rather than horror is mental. To not see the human side first is weird.

4) Trump Jr already using this as a political weapon is disgusting. "My dad will never stop fighting for America .. No matter what the radical left throw at him". He's put a target on their political enemies by blaming them for a lone gunman. I expect there to be more violence over there as repercussions of this.

I honestly think the people have lost their ****ing minds.

America is and always was a basket case country. The fact you have a contest between a man who is clearly showing signs of senile dementure, and a bloke who has been accused of rape and sexual assault and caused an insurrection against a democratic election tells you that. :emoticon-0140-rofl:

You've hit the nail on the head there mate ...

... Trump is reaping what he's sown to an extent.

He's turned politics into an absolute bearpit and supporters of each side violently against each other.

Rather than this acting as wake up call I think we'll see more violence on the streets of the US.

Thankfully our version of Trump was booted out and things have noticeably calmed down in my opinion.

The world needs more calm, it's starting to unravel.

After the war me grandad jumped ship in the USA. He loved the place and wanted to relocate there.
Me nana was having none of it.
I can imagine it being a decent place back then.
Back in my early twenties, me and my then fiancé planned on going there.

(A friend of mine who's father was a yank had been with his lass for about 18 months before she got homesick.)
Anyways I got cold feet and she actually went ahead.
She ended up sat next to a suspected terrorist on the flight. She was detained for I think around two days at the changeover airport and the experience saw her return to the UK immediately.

I'm so glad I didn't go there. What a fooked up shìthole And brimming with lunatics.

Mass homelessness, terrible health care. Crap working conditions.
The UK gets moaned about, and it has been in decline the last 14 years, but it's still a decent place to live imo.

Hopefully we don't follow suit of America, although the Tories and farage would have us that way to make a buck.

I'm crossing my fingers that a bit of PTSD sneaks in and he packs in but I'm not holding my breath.

I think you're probably right.

I dont even think the democrats swapping Biden out for someone competent helps now.

No doubt he will now go on and win. The man didn't even miss the PR photo shoot after being shot. Clenched fists, American flag and fight. That will hit home to lots of Americans in certain states.

There are moments in elections that swing the tide. This is absolutely it.
100%

Leaving him in guarantees a loss though.

Biggest problem is that voting is not compulsory which means a **** load of people who would have voted Democrat just won't vote cos Biden has lost the plot

I'm not so sure about that. When Jo Cox was tragically murdered prior to the Brexit referendum that felt like it would push the result the way of Remain. It didn't pan out like that. The US election is decided by those in the middle not those on the fringes. Of far more importance is whether Biden is replaced.

If Mrs Biden has any sense she'll ask him to step down ...

... this shooting gives him the perfect reason imo.

Given that the January 6th Capital attack didn't change the divisive nature of American politics, I can't imagine this will either. It will divide further and will "justify" someone on the far right using violence to make their point.

We've experimented with that type of "Charismatic Leader" over here who will attack the opposition increasingly more, but hopefully we've taken that step back now and the conservatives shift to the centre rather than the right as a result.

It's easy for people to get wrapped up in patriotism or nationalism, but we don't need a rallying leader or war general in charge. Mundane, sensible, functional politicians is what we need for the most part. The divisiveness of right and left result in very little being done for the benefit of the majority and throws a whole lot of anger and violence into the mix.
