Sadly until we start taking a hardline approach it's going to continue.

Depends what you mean by hardline.

I’m not for US style armed police, shoot first and ask questions later. And I’m not up for vigilante type groups trying to police UK streets.

That said, something needs to be done about little scrotes like this who think they can get away with it. Catching the ****s in the act is the first problem and then finding prison space is another issue.

But, I think there should be a mandatory 2 year custodial for carrying a knife/machete and a mandatory 5 year custodial for aggravated robbery.

I think we need the monty python style black knight treatment....

1st offence lose an arm
2nd offence lose the other arm
3rd offence lose a leg
4th offence lose another leg
Any further crimes, head shot.

You would stop crime over night, guaranteed.

Statistically, studies have shown that raising the severity of punishment for a crime doesn't actually lower the occurrence of the crime like you think it would. In most cases it's had minimal impact.

What does lower crime is expectation of being caught. If people don't think they can get away with a crime, they're less likely to commit one. Doesn't matter if the punishment is a month in jail or death by bunga-bunga- people commit crimes only when they think they can get away with it.

The solution isn't popular. More police, more invasive cameras and surveillance (which is ironic since Britain has more CC than anywhere)... criminals need to think they're going to get caught if they commit crime.

Don’t see this **** in Saudi or Dubai

Id happily kill one of these ****s if they came near my boy

run him over

then kill his mum n dad too

job done

Culture and religion play a part. They probably feel like they're more likely to get caught if they commit a crime... and if they DO get charged with a crime it's probably more likely to stick... "Innocent until proven guilty" probably not so strongly enforced either... if the police say you did something, you did it, and you're getting punished.

You're not going to be let off because the police man has a conflict of interest because he gets his hair cut at the same place as you or some other dipshit reason.

I think in a lot of Western countries there is an expectation that if you get arrested, even if caught red-handed, you might get away with it anyway on some technicality. I would certainly fight any crime I was accused of, even if I were guilty and the evidence was overwhelming. The chance that the police officer is screwing the woman testing the DNA is > 0. There's a chance the evidence will all get thrown out and I'm allowed to walk.
