Or maybe not https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/truth-behind-evertons-bid-jaden-9397702
Like you I’ve been fairly sceptical about the current ownerships plans over the last 12 months. However, I think it’s fair to say we have to bide our time now this window as fans and hang tight. Most rumours are just us generating names ourselves of likely transfers. Chances are we get about 7 or 8 in before Bristol city which hopefully gives us a starting XI to play with and then we pad out the squad with the remaining of the window. Im hopeful as well somebody steps up out of nowhere like Simons or Callum Jones. My bet would be Andy Smith but depends what we do with LCB. I think the owners have seen the wolves that are prepared to bite if they get this wrong. It’s bubbling away underneath the surface as I’ve seen some of the ones saying keep calm now in the last couple days are turning a bit. If they do what they’ve done in the past and sign nobodies permanently and high profile loans leaving us with a shallow squad again then the bell will probably toll.
I don’t share your optimism. I think he’s an egomaniac and as soon as he senses a section of the supporters are criticising him, he’ll throw his toys out the pram. It will end in tears. The Allams were the second coming when they bailed the club out as well.
He’s always taken criticism on the chin to be fair. He just doesn’t help with his showmanship, you won’t find many multi millionaires that aren’t ego maniacs…
What worries me about this is that two summers ago we brought in a load of players from other European leagues and it felt like they were landed on Shota by the powers that be. There was huge excitement on here about it all, but many of those signings proved inadequate for the rigours of the Championship. I have a fear of exactly the same thing happening again. This doesn't feel like development, it feels like knocking the house down and starting again - again.
**** me clear as mud. Philo's agent seems like a bit of a sort with all of the stunts he pulls. Now he's posting pictures of himself at the Everton training ground after doing the same in Barcelona earlier.
I've got about as much faith as I have unease at the moment. There was clearly a need for a 'bit' of a clear-out but I'm not sure even the most fervent supporters of Illicali could have envisaged it on this scale?
Shota by all accounts was way out of his depth. I actually have trust in Walter having some balls about him to say who we wants and not have players just dumped on him
I have a feeling Simon’s might come good as cenner mid plus Walter’s going to bring in four German players he knows well you heard it here first
Fact is that even Rosenior said the squad was way to big and thats before however many came in in January. The trim down of the deadwood was and is necessary. Losing 3 main players is a hit, but we knew 2 were going to go no matter what. So Ozan is the loss. I honestly expected Seri to go to Saudi, he wouldn't work in Walters team and I think his 'availability' might see some more bidding from this country, but a decent price for Seri would be a bonus.
I think that's a fair point. Still think that if we recruit almost exclusively from outside the UK, it's a big gamble. Would really like to see some experienced championship players want to join the project.
How is it hindsight? We were already challenging for the top 6 before Jan and the top 4 were already very strong.
Yep, having a starting X1 would be nice!! Fingers crossed! -> Im hopeful as well somebody steps up out of nowhere like Simons or Callum Jones. My bet would be Andy Smith but depends what we do with LCB. Me too. I really doubt it will be Andy Smith though. I don't think he's anywhere near good enough. Happy for him to prove me wrong of course. Simons might though.
I'm sure Tim was well aware of the squad situation, and perhaps even enjoyed the idea of a big rebuild. It is a lot all at once and is a result of so many combining factors. There's no doubt that there has been naivety in our approach but those in charge seem to acknowledge this and are taking a more measured approach to our signings, this is rarely perfect though no matter who you are. Things that are certain for me are that the club is in a better place than it was a few years ago off the pitch and I'm confident we will have a team ready for the new season, the last few years have been pretty exciting with some chaos and unconventional methods thrown in and I'm happy to continue to enjoy the ride, knowing that at some point Acun will probably move on, but I believe will have left us in a better position than we started. At which point we will probably get some chairman who will stick to convention and a period of mid-table obscurity will follow.
