The whole article implies it. Saying we can't flex our financial muscle even with the incoming money and then suggesting a transfer target that is free in Chris Willock. Yes it doesn't explicitly say free transfers or loans but to imply we will be nickel and diming our way after a big fee incoming does raise some eyebrows
I do enjoy a good glass of copium, and you're right about getting loans and free transfers; some of our best signings historically have been on a free - Geo, Koren, Barmby, Dawson, Campbell (second coming), Smallwood, Seri... if they've only just been released from their club that Summer, it's not the same level of risk as signing a free agent in November or March. It's about finding quality for value, there are quite a few players that would be very good Championship quality players but aren't needed by their clubs - Oztunali is one of them, Shola Shoretire that's just left Man U is another. I had done a post about free agents that are available, but I've got an updated version now that the PL have announced who they are letting go. I'll pop it up in a bit.
It’s a market we’ve not utilised enough under Acun, now we are in a position where we are using it more and then spending on the right players who are different makers
Acun is frustrated with ffp as he wants to spend more, now we just arent bothering ? As sw3 said, it’s a little confusing
Not going to lie, I’m on the edge of my seat. I can’t wait to see who’s coming in and I think it’s sensible to not spend too big on individual players also. At this level, fees of around £1m - £5m seem about right for quality. There are exceptions of course. Can we have some more clues from the ITK’s please?
1904 club name dropped Willock, Rak-Sakyi & McConnell as targets. Said the striker target is a good one, that people would be happy with. Described as a 'decent outlet, experienced, scores goals, very good record' Gut feeling is McBurnie and Drameh as the two singings
