So Reform (luckily) only secured 4 seats with 15% of the popular vote (up 13% compared to 2019) and Labour secured 400+ seats with only 2% more of the popular vote (compared to 2019) @ 35%. So is the UK perhaps on its way to becoming another future Fascist state as I recall my Father talking about and warning me of Oswald Mosley and his UK aristocratic friends (the Mitford sisters, Guinness empire) in the 1930's (where are those damned Peaky Blinders when you need them to crack a few fascist heads?) and similar fascist movements too in Italy (Mussolini), Germany (Hitler), Spain (Franco) and even in the USA where there was a huge Nazi movement (rallies packing Madison Square Garden in New York) and infiltrating the core of US government and judiciary with Christian Right and Henry Ford & Charles Lindbergh support (Hitler had portrait of Henry Ford displayed in his office). Move on almost 100 years to Donald Trump??? Vote share and change Party Vote share Labour 34.2% Conservative 23.5% Reform UK 14.3% Liberal Democrat 12.1% Green 6.9% Scottish National Party 2.4% With more than 580 seats now declared, the BBC is forecasting that the final vote share across Great Britain will be: Labour - 35% (+2) Conservatives - 24% (-21) Liberal Democrats - 12% (0) Reform - 15% (+13) Green - 7% (+4)
Do give my love to Penny I'm shortly on the road north to see Liz Truss, with an old length of rope tied into a noose
All they had to do after 2019 was govern uncontroversially. Nobody could’ve predicted the Covid pandemic, but their behaviour with Partygate set in the rot. Truss straight afterwards sealed their fate. To be fair to Sunak it was a hospital pass after that. Labour deserve their chance because the last 5 years or so has seen the worst Tory administration, more so than Major’s. Bereft of talent and ideas, quickly lost any goodwill from the public, corrupt and inept. Let’s see how Starmergeddon holds his vast majority in line. I wish I could say I was looking forward to this new government.
Net legal immigration rising to 6-700,000 pa even under Sunak sent a huge number of voters to Reform. A left wing writer in the Times opines today that the UK is ahead of Continental Europe which is moving fast to the right. I think it's the other way around. If Starmer doesn't deal with mass immigration (and it clearly isn't his priority) the UK will follow the European example. In the meantime, I can see a split in the Tories coming. Jenrick and Braverman are closer to Reform than they are to One Nation Tories.
Love to hear Liz Truss' take on it all. I'm sure that it was some conspiracy of the left wing establishment which led to her cementing her position as the least successful and talented politician of all time.
Nobody wants to deal with the issue immigration other than Reform because of the smears that come with tough policies. You only have to read Kilburn’s post above to see how successful these smears have been, but aided and abetted by parties like Reform attracting the undesirable racist ****ers who have nowhere else to go.
The most racist party in the UK since Oswald Mosley in the 1930's, is the Labour Party under Corbyn. Reform have time now to fully examine the backgrounds of all their members and future candidates, and kick out any that hold racist views. One of the biggest contributors to Reform is Zia Yusuf, a Muslim. A greater racial and religious mix is definitely desirable. Reform is about keeping net immigration numbers down. It's also about ensuring that immigrants coming to the UK can integrate well, and enjoy and contribute to British life. Mass immigration under the Tories and Labour has not been conducive to this.
Lovely sunny day, the corrupt bastards are out, Gullis, one of the least talented people ever has gone! Reece Mogg, the pompeus twat has gone. It's a great day. My first objective would be to get our hard earned money back from all those Tory cronies who conned us during the pandemic.
What a relief to see it actually done. A very poor turnout and a lower vote share for Starmer that Corbyn achieved in 2017 are disappointing aspects, but the result is an overwhelmingly positive one. The Tories are gone, Rees-Mogg is gone, Truss is gone, Shapps is gone, Gullis is gone, Galloway is gone. It's a good day.
I was impressed by the effort Hunt put into keeping his seat, including funding alot himself. Tbh he saw the way the wind was blowing and concentrated on his own back yard. The Tories have got rid off a lot of bad eggs...standing down or defeated. A few are left..suella Braverman comes to mind. But a few good ones are left...but how will the Tories rebuild...I fear they will lurch to the right....which I know some people would embrace..but personally I fear.
A comprehensive victory and an opportunity for Labour to build on their 35% share of the vote. The hard work starts now, it will be harder (and more fulfilling) governing than criticising. The ‘danger’ for Starmer is if the left decide to try and dump him for Rayner. Hopefully, we will have 5 years of good government - we certainly need that Anyway, Court One here I come
