Advancements in technology marketed at the end user have certainly had the affect you describe
Advancements in tech to reduce the need for humans to do work should mean there is less need for work, but because politics hasn’t caught up with that what it actually means is more unemployment and bigger dividends for already rich shareholders

Needs a radical rethink globally…which won’t happen in my lifetime I don’t think

No matter what you think of Reform (I think they’re a bunch of grifters and cranks), the fact they could get almost twice as many votes as Lib Dems and only a fraction of the seats shows how ****ing crap FPTP is.

Whatever you think of them, and with the caveat it's only the exit polls, in four weeks as a party, they look to have gained more seats than the Lib Dems started with the other year.

It would be foolish for whoever is in power to ignore the points they raised, as they are issues for people that chose other parties too.

    Apologies, agree.

I find it interesting that the US and UK have elections on weekdays while we do it on the weekend. Seems we give more opportunity for people to vote and the US and UK either don't care or actively discourage those who can't make it to the poll on a workday from doing so. Doesn't strike me as a reasonable system.

Serious question(s), is it enough to swing an election? And who does it discourage from voting? Is it shift workers etc. That it makes it harder for?

I personally think weekends would be better.

I think it can in close elections. Having weekday voting with huge queues etc like in the US would be tough. Not sure what it's like in the UK. Over here we can very easily vote prior to the day if we want to, but plenty of polling booths on the day, food etc provided, it's a very smooth process. And if people don't want to vote that's fine, they just get their name marked off and go home.
