Advancements in technology marketed at the end user have certainly had the affect you describeI don't disagree with your point, but I don't think advancements in technology have reduced the need for work. In many respects they've increased it, as ironically people need more money to buy the labour saving devices, so in effect, they're using the time saved by the device so they can then work to get the money to pay for the device.
Advancements in tech to reduce the need for humans to do work should mean there is less need for work, but because politics hasn’t caught up with that what it actually means is more unemployment and bigger dividends for already rich shareholders
Needs a radical rethink globally…which won’t happen in my lifetime I don’t think
