So, I know its only two players from the squad or starting 11 but this makes me think again that we underperformed last season. Ipswich got automatic promotion with their largely league 1 squad, we couldn't even make the play offs with our roll the dice all in attempt. Now Ipswich think two of ours are good enough for them in the premier league. Again it's only two but it makes you think, well me anyway. Probably Acun too.

People keep mentioning Ipswich like they got up spending nothing, since the new owners took over three years ago, they've thrown £70m at getting into the Premier League (obviously it's paid off, put they've not gone up without spending).

But surely throwing a bunch of misfits together in january should guarantee promotion?

It is. OLM seems to have conjured a figure out of thin air.

If anyone has accepted transfermarkets terms and conditions you can see its nowhere near 70million. I didn't so only get a few seconds of free viewing but last season looked to be about 6 million and the one before that 2.5 million.

It’s not about spend, but overspend, that is more than your income.

Doesn’t matter as they have spent next to nothing on transfers over the last 3 years.Their wage bill last year was under £20 million with average gates of 28,000 so no problems on that front either.

Transfers are not the only place you spend.

Their wage bill in League 1 was £20m. With the 13 players they brought in on loan, many from the PL, that would have gone up again last season. If they hadn't gone up they'd have been at FFP risk for sure.

And people keep mentioning Brentford and Brighton as the models to follow even tho they both spent an absolute fortune to get up to the PL

Their wage bill for last season was under £20million. I would think that with transfers and wages their spending was not much different to ours either way over the last 2 seasons. Their attendances averaged over 26,000 and 28,000 compared to our just under 18,000 and just under 22,000 at what will have been higher prices than ours so their income will have been more. I would say they were at less risk of FFP problems than us.

No their wage bill only in L1 was £19.8m which is bonkers.

Sorry I'm at risk of becoming accused of the Ipswich obsessive but someone posted this on twitter in relation to their double bid and how they could easily go higher.

In L1 they spent £20m on a single player:-

"Ipswich Town have completed the club-record signing of Omari Hutchinson from Chelsea.

The 20-year-old winger has signed a five-year deal to keep him at the club until 2029.

Hutchinson spent the season on loan with the then Championship club and helped guide them to promotion.

He now joins on a permanent basis after the clubs agreed a deal of £20million plus £2.5m in add-ons and a 20 per cent sell-on."

If Hutchinson was £20 million, that was cheap!!

You said they had spent £70 million as though they had splashed out on transfers and that was the reason they went up. £70 million to get 2 promotions in 2 seasons is more than reasonable. How much did we spend with smaller gates to get there?

Yes, because obviously the only cost a football club incurs is transfer fees. <doh>

We have spent more than that in 2 seasons with less success in the past. Half the Championship have spent more than Ipswich over the last 2 seasons and are still in it. Ipswich have got 2 promotions in that time.
