Johnathan Reynolds is getting tortured on GMB it’s painful to watch. Do labour have anyone capable of speaking live on national TV and not making a fool of themselves? We are so so f*cked come this general election.

Comical promises then going back on them within 30 seconds. Quizzed about their plans to open 350 bank branches saying they have no support from the banks who’ve came out publicly and said it’s a silly idea because nobody uses branches anymore it’s pretty much online banking. Said Grant Shapps was wrong to say they have no endorsement from any FTSE100 company then admitted he was right. Kept dodging the questions they put to him and said “it’s in the manifesto” while they were saying yes but not everyone watching will read the manifesto so can you give us an answer..?

Then quizzed about how they’re actually going to pay for all of the plans they have and whether they’d revalue the council tax bands and promised it wouldn’t happen, yet Rachael Reeves and Darren Jones both refused to rule out redrawing the bands just the other day. Didn’t know what to say when questioned why they were contradicting each other so back to “in the manifesto”.

Reckons there’ll be no tax increases whatsoever across the board of any sort and everything will be paid for because they think they’ll grow the economy at a faster rate - and if it doesn’t grow at a faster rate? “Well then there’d be difficult decisions to be made.” So clearly you are going to tax people more :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Where did the banks say it was a silly idea ...

... they've already started the process and opened banking hubs, not banks, themselves.

And if nobody uses banks anymore why are there banks?

Not everyone uses internet banking especially as online fraud is one of the most common crimes.

You asked me what was said so I told you mate. Something about how much it’ll cost, the amount of staff required etc, banks have refuted the idea and HSBC were name dropped as directly opposing it.

If we need more branches why have over 6k been closed in the last decade?

Just Googled it and can't find a scrap of evidence to back up what you've said.

The banks are already implementing banking hubs.

"John Howells, Link chief executive, said: “Link has already recommended 132 banking hubs right across the UK and they are proving a very popular way of providing access to cash and basic banking for consumers and businesses who need to use a high street branch."

I should’ve known better, apologies. It’s imperative I get my phone out and video everything to use as evidence before I post it on this board :emoticon-0102-bigsm:emoticon-0102-bigsm

It's nothing to do with an opinion, you've made a claim you can't back up.

And no, this wasn't just announced last night, the banks are behind it, hence banking hubs have already been opened.

If the banks think it's a silly idea why would they be doing that?

I’ve sent you the link to watch it yourself tomorrow, I’ll expect an apology by mid morning :emoticon-0148-yes:

It was announced last night. Banking hubs are already a thing yes, but labours plans to push more of them have only just been announced hence why it’s the topic of conversation on the news this morning. Sounds to me like they’ve just jumped on another parties policy and promised to take it to an unnecessary level. Or is it actually nothing to do with the government and they’ll be begging the banks to do it?

Unless 2023 means 'last night' I think you'll find you're wrong.

Anyway, off to work so I'm done for the first match today.

Labour government would accelerate banking hubs roll out
    05 Dec 2023

    Thomas Parker, Shard Financial Media
A Labour government would accelerate the roll out of banking hubs in the UK if it wins the next general election.

"Announced by shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves, the move would see the expansion of the national network of banking hubs – enabling people to deposit and withdraw money as well as get help with banking services. It would also give new powers to the FCA to guarantee access to cash for people across the UK to stop people being left in “banking deserts”, ensuring local access to face-to-face services."

So, in your link to Reuters, HSBC and other banks are in favour of these hubs, despite you claiming they think it's silly.

That's not my opinion, you've just posted something that proves you were initially mistaken.

"50 banking hubs so far opened under a voluntary arrangement with banks including the big four of HSBC, Lloyds, NatWest and Barclays."

Yeah, but labour are pledging another 200 or so which I assume is where they’ve been shot down by the likes of HSBC.
