No one want our club to be successful as I do. However, if you look at Sheffield Utd, Luton and Burnley, the bottom three clubs at present, and see how much they have spent (I've no idea btw) , I suspect is not a lot, no teams are going to establish themselves in the EPL without a generous input of serious cash.
I'd too would like to think a dollop of cash and youth hold their own in the EPL but feel that's a pipedream nowadays.
Which can only realistically happen once you're in it. To get into the PL,a generous input of serious cash also comes with a generous input of serious contract expenditure, which can be extremely destructive in the event of things not going to plan on the pitch.
In my opinion,we have the right idea. Acquire young talent on longer contracts to mix with that coming through from the Academy, and develop them into a winning side. If we receive an offer or two which we can't refuse, then we replenish the coffers and ensure we have replacements ready to step in. In that event, you could say the recruitment people, and the DoF,have done their job well...... we currently have 3 or 4 who could well be the subject of offers, and we wait to see the recruitment targets. As and when promotion is achieved, the players are rewarded and the club has the new found financial muscle to improve the squad as necessary.
In my opinion, that's what we're trying to do..the so called Model.
The problem we,as fans have,is that it can take time. The Second Division is full of clubs with exactly the same ambition, hampered by the comparative wealth of the clubs coming down and,in some cases,by the momentum of those coming up.
Our collective patience has been worn thin over the last 6 months, but,if our leaders get things right, next season presents us with more opportunity.
Hoping for a pleasing imminent announcement!
