I know we have mentioned deafness on here and mainly how much it costs to get a private aid. This is too late for some of us, but promising research and an operation https://apple.news/Ajx4xYHfQQ52tAHvk0Ne0zA
I saw that earlier and what a step forward this could be. Absolutely thrilled by this and it’s potential to improve the lives of so many people.
In my job I sometimes see visa refusals for international students who have applied to study in the UK, and based on the comments in the refusal letter, I'm convinced you have to be a sociopath to work in the home office. Given the west disgustingly abandoned Afghanistan to the Taliban, the least we can do is take in the interpreters. When I was at school we had a kid who came in who was from Afghanistan, this during the high point of the war. He was nice, bloody fast runner as well. Sadly he wasn't in my house!
The only crackpots and distortions come from those in government and mainstream media. Propaganda such as this gem from 2020: In hindsight.. LOL. Scamdemic
I mean... it happened. I don't understand your grandstanding on this. I agree we can debate the response - but this was a global pandemic which killed millions. You are upset about the people who died from the vaccine but those numbers are dwarfed by the disease itself. So, you are only upset about deaths caused by attempts to save lives? What if nothing had been done and the disease had killed ten million more. Would that be better?
I have to say that post is downright insulting and disrespectful to the people who lost friends and family to Covid. To call it a scamdemic is outrageous quite frankly.
FAKE IMAGE check the metadata. https://www.google.com/search?q=Guardian newspaper covid headlines 2020. This is what a Guardian headline was in January 2020. Scamdemic, pathetic post a new low. Foaming crackpot conspiraloonacey full of lies, distortions and ludicrous statements is completely appropriate in the face of wappie bullshit. "Noun. wappie m (plural wappies) (slang, derogatory, Netherlands) A fool who is so lost in their delusions, a weirdo. [from late 1990s] (slang, derogatory, Netherlands) A crackpot, a conspiracy theorist."
Os, I would urge you in the strongest possible terms to delete that post. It hasn't broken any site rules so I'm reluctant to do it myself but it's quite clearly full of lies and to call the pandemic "scamdemic" is awful and will clearly anger and insult a lot of people.
I checked and that was a real headline. I am just confused why it signifies a scam? I have seen loads of videos of the chinese in those suits. Tht is real. A dead guy on the floor. That is not something to laugh about. Things were bad in Wuhan. That is definitely true. I am just totally confused what Os wanted to say.
While I don't necessarily advocate for open borders, nor letting in so many people that we eventually build over all the green spaces between cities (and I travel between cities on trains fairly regularly, so I can see there's a lot), there has got to be some kind of nuance to immigration policy. At the very least the number of translators and their families probably doesn't add up to that many people. Though I feel like as a country we've got a responsibility to facilitate their integration. Not just let them come here and then forget about, but help them become a part of society. There's a couple of issues though, firstly the we're full argument is symptomatic of how damn centralised and London-centric the country is. Maybe the south east is quite densely populated, but how much of that is because of London and the commuter belt? Secondly a lot of people who are anti-immigration are also anti-aid, failing to realise how aid can be a weapon against immigration. By using aid effectively to increase the standard of living in developing countries, people have less incentive to migrate. It's just basic geography. Likewise advocating for human rights in countries like Iran would also be an important part of a decent migration strategy But yes, sorry I am rambling
Was it? I couldn't find it except as a twaXter post and other images . All the Guardian banners have the section headers and a reference to the age of the article. Google lens exact image search didn't relate it to the newspaper. Whatever, Os was talking reprehensible bullshit with his scamdemic bollocks.
